We've got a 3406b in a '94 379. When we bought it, it wouldn't pull very well and our other 3406b would out pull it ('95 FL). I took it to a local mechanic that knows the Cat engines inside and out. I told him I needed more power and he went to work.
I don't really know what he did (he doesn't like to reveal info) but said he took it about half as far as he could, and any further would cost a bunch more (swapping parts). That thing will out pull everything else we have now, I don't know the HP numbers but it's a pretty fair amount above stock. I watch the pyro and it will get right at the limit but have never had to downshift to let it cool. It will roll black smoke bad if you get into it too hard taking off.
