Possibly the best receiver I have ever delivered to. Every time I'm there the dock door is open while I'm backing in, I get backed in, chock my wheels, walk inside, hand the my paperwork, and barely have enough time to go to the bathroom before I'm offloaded and paperwork is in hand.

Sounds like a good place to deliver to. A food place that is quick offloading. Pinch me now. Do you need a lumper for this or what?

I worked there for several years back in the 90's. It is the distribution center for Piggly Wiggly and Food City stores in the area.

They usually are pretty quick about getting the loads on and off the trucks. Glad to hear they still take a little pride in their work.

Hope you enjoy my neck o' the woods.

Since you can see the dock from the breakroom/office I've never seen them make me wait to brkdwn a load. It's always been a straight pull, I usually haul Vlassic Pickles into the place, they yank em off my truck 2 pallets at a time and send me on my way.

Back in the day when I worked there, and it may still be the same way, the drivers never backed the trailers up to the dock. It was all done by a switcher with a yard dog.

I was unloading a trailer with a forklift and the trailer next to it was locked and loaded and ready to roll. The switcher got messed up and pulled the trailer I was on out of the dock. I was backing off the trailer and saw daylight and then watched the door get farther away. Nothing much I could do but wait until he came around to close up the doors. Kinda funny, but kinda scary for a minute or two.

Used to lump trucks there too.

    Firebird,

Hi neighbor! Wytheville area here, used to live in Lebanon, still get to Bristol quite often. Who do you drive for now? Just finished school, take road test this Thursday, and hope to be in orientation on the 18th.

I've delivered to this place on several occassions. They are probably one of the best grocery warehouses to deliver to. They don't waste your time...you're in and out pretty quick.
They do use lumpers, but most of the loads I've hauled in there have been pre-paid by the shipper.

Have had less success than all of you at Mid-Mountain. Had over 5 hour unloads and up to $115 lumper fees (not that it is as expensive as many grocery warehouses) and always night deliveries. Maybe your loads are straight pulls and mine are mixed. Who knows? I was just suprised to see them on the good list. I'll have to change my opinion of them.

IMO, Coborn's grocery warehouse in St. Cloud, MN is the best. 7am-9am deliveries, no lumper, empty in an hour, no rejected cases and nice people. Funny, they get the exact same loads that Nash Finch gets down the street in St. Cloud and they charge $150-$200 lumper, 4-5 hour unloads, 5am only deliveries and always a few cases damaged or rejected.
