688 miles today in 10:40 drive time again. Hoping the roads are cleared up by the time I get up into MI this morning.

I'm thinking of making a change and was interested in Magnum. Without reading 1756 pages of this thread can someone please say yes or no to it being a good place to work. I am clean ( background and MVR) don't mind running, want a decent check but hate sitting for no good reason.... Thanks

To be honest I’d say yes, however with our new reorganization I’d also tell you to wait and see how this present fustercluck plays out! There have been too many of my coworkers that have had an enormous amount of layover days as of late.Luckydawg, Lowlite, mattbh23 and 1 other person Thank this.

As always it depends on what you want and the culture you wish to work in. Heck if what Shaffer is advertising turns out to be true I could make an argument that they are a good place to work with respect to pay.
On the other hand the flexible time off and hands off approach could make Magnum the place to be...it sort of depends. Coming out of GA should help you net decent miles, but I don't know what your hometime and earning expectations are. You also have some good companies to consider down your way.
Feel free to PM me if you have a specific question, overall I like Magnum warts and all, however I acknowledge that it's not the right fit for all...Luckydawg Thanks this. -
I’m in MI the roads are good shape.

Been here since mid Aug and so far it's been a good move. The reorganization is a work in progress right now...looks like their throwing must on the wall and seeing what sticks. I live in Clarksville TN and while I have been able to catch resets on my way to or from the Carolinas and Georgia, my extended home time is different. Lol, someone made a comment on Shaffer and while they do have a great pay package, they also tend to keep you locked up in the NE once you get up in that area. Their average weekly miles are significantly under what we can get here at Magnum. I've been driving since 95. The performance based pay system they have here is really nice. Doesn't matter how long you've been driving, do the work and anyone can get up to the $.45-48 rate fairly quick. I also like the running areas here...we do run PA, NJ but not NY (but we get close enough to see it!) or New England. Since the company is based out of Fargo and we do alot of ND, MN, and WI, you'll definitely need the winter gear. So far, so good...but stay tuned for the results of the ops reorganization. Good luck! Take the offers up and PM guys that have been here awhile for specifics...they are a huge help in getting going!

magnum is a great company in my opinion, I enjoyed the time I spent there. Right out of school there way above any mega & with the hands off approach that just adds icing on the cake. Other than the slow trucks lol
Luckydawg Thanks this. -
if they ever speed up the trucks I probably would go back. If I got tired of local work

I doubt many/any OTR reefer companies compare to Magnum LTD. I made $74k last year (my second year with them) and I'm on track for $70k+ this year. When I have enough to buy a house I'll look into their LTL division but I still enjoy living on the road.
