I expect that after a certain number of years experience behind the wheel that the insurer is more concerned about a driver's MVR than they are about a completion certificate.
Do companies really care about a certificate?

I would think so but still not sure why a certificate is needed at all. However you obtain a CDL should not matter, you have demonstrated that you have enough skill and knowledge to pass the exams and skill test.WesternPlains Thanks this.

Which candidate would you hire over the other, the New CDL holder with no experience operating a T/T or classroom instruction for minimum number of credit/criteria, or the new CDL holder who has the classroom instruction and hours/miles at the helm of a T/T?
I know who I would choose and who the insurance companies and employers would choose.WesternPlains Thanks this. -
It's called Entry Level Driver Training Rule (ELDT). Current/former CDL holders are exempt.

The cert from my school and a couple of other things have been gathering dust on shelf for most of my life. No one ever asked to see them.WesternPlains Thanks this.

How do you know the person that didn't go to a school dose not have any experienced? I was on a truck almost a year with a permit working with my family. Who do you think has more experiencex1Heavy and WesternPlains Thank this.

I was reading through that ELDT page posted by @Peelsession and even once it is in place there is no mandatory classroom time or behind the wheel time. It is completely at the discretion of the trainer and/or school. So there will be good training programs and bad. As soon as the student can pass the knowledge test and road-test at DMV they will be graduated by the school so that they can collect money from a new student. I don't see how it improves the quality of a new CDL driver in any way. One more government regulation that has cost us money and time with zero benefit at the end.
WesternPlains and x1Heavy Thank this. -
That is not my question.WesternPlains Thanks this.

I just finished a company sponsored 4 week training at one of the best technical colleges in the country for trucking. I got a certificate of completion but it's not accredited. The school also has a 10 week program that is accredited and you go through all that graduation stuff and get a real certification.
Companies don't care about a piece of paper just that you have a clean record and experience. Some people are great students but can't apply what they learned out in the real world. So experience is everything. No matter where or how you get your CDL they all say the same thing on that piece of plastic.
Congratulations on getting your CDL!tc3500 Thanks this.
