I thought the reason he could not get home now was because of eLogs, hence the rant.

That is correct.I'll be curious after a month of forced elogs how much havoc it'll cause on the companies and drivers who have always used paper logs.

Imagine being able to do 2 loads a day but actual average drive time to end back at terminal is 11:15. ELogs are going to suck in that application.

Gonna need a faster truck or drive like a maniac or live on half the income or move the terminal or the pit. Tough choices.

I was with a company when they were forced on Elogs and my pay went up a few hundred dollars a week. That's no exaggeration. The reason is, the dispatchers couldn't play favorites as much or hold loads back for their pets while waiting for the pets to return and start another paper log. Another time I saw that happen was when I drove for First Fleet; some drivers were making double what other drivers were making because of falsifying paper logs. When the owners changed the rules and said logs must match fuel stops within 15 minutes, then the pay equaled out among everyone. They were strict on that and checked every fuel receipt against the logs. The fuel stops were monitored at headquarters.

I imagine in the not too distant future a lot of companies will be doing that or risk losing drivers.I don't think shippers and receivers will like this mandate too well.

I imagine come Mon weigh stations will be looking at all trucks to make sure they're equipped with elogs.

Another reason I appreciate Elogs is also when I drove for First Fleet. They had a big account hauling stainless steel restuarant equipment to Golden Corral, which was expanding rapidly.
Pick the loads up in Savannah,TN and take them wherever a new Golden Corral was being built. The brown nose drivers where making the big money and the rest of us weren't doing too well. Walked into to dispatch and they said, "Call tomorrow driver, it's slow right now." I left and let them hear the outside door close, but didn't actually leave. I stepped into a cubile next to the dispatcher and listened to them snicker. They were on the phone with some driver that had delivered in Wyoming and was now in Missouri and out of hours. He was starting a new log book so he could get back for his next Golden Corral load. The dispatchers were a little worried because the driver was so exhausted, but he insisted he will be back in time for the load they were holding for him.
Anyway, it's not worth arguing with people in a lousy company like First Fleet, so I quit and went somewhere else.

Shippers & receivers should be held accountable when they delay trucks just for the sake of delaying them. Grocery warehouses are really bad about that and some union steel mills are even worse.
