So did I.........went out and found a gig that does exactly that. ELD has had zero impact on how I run my loads.

No elogs required if you operate within 150 air miles of "yard" and return there after 12 hours. Certain other exemptions also apply.

They'll be back. Company will offer them a 5% pay increase, they'll come back. Spend a month figuring out how to run optimally on eLogs and hopefully some sensible HOS rules changes wil result.

They b__ch and gripe but what are they going to do? Take a call center job? Those trucking locally sure as hell aren't going to leave their job to swap for the OTR driver's old job.

Money seems to fix most problems in trucking. Everyone has to adjust to ELDs. If someone is running local maybe they need to change more. If they can't get home because of being help up for loading or unloading. Then you can tell the customer they need to speed thing up or maybe you charge them detention pay at a rate that makes up for not getting home that night.

Use the ELDs and the demand for trucks with holiday freight to you advantage. All we can do is try and get enough money for our time. We all know shippers and receivers don't want pay

Eld in logic no different from paper. Cost of logbook per year at one per month at $80.00 per year at 12 books per year. Cost of Eld 100.00+ For unit plus monthly service of 19.00+. The owner Operator have to be able to recoup the cost for the machine including any downtime installing and servicing or any errors problems with the Eld.Lease purchase is a way the company to save money, track, and control. Any lease purchase owner operator who generated at lease $120,000 a yr gross and gets 65% will give that company 42,000 off the top then 20,000-40,000 yr for the truck. Then the operator pay all its own 100% of TAXES, Insurance, Social Security,Occ,2290,base plate,Fuel,Maintenance, salary and any problems out of what’s left. Lease purchase and Owner Operator will be the way of the future. Let’s do the math Ex.80,000 miles for year =$120,000 gross* @ 65%= 78,000 to the truck gross.
    $78,000@ 80,000 miles yr. ie
    -38,000 deductions including truck note.
    -22,000 fuel 6.5 mpg at 2.25 gal
Now before you pay yourself those are operating numbers. Tell me how do people say I’m not in this to pay the truck off I just want to get ahead. After a year in that truck you could have just stayed company and saved that money. Eld will push the lease purchase movement to normal with no intention of benefiting the operator.

Not quite sure what you're getting at there but if the added cost of the ELD is enough of a burden to put you out of business you were headed there anyway.

The true owner operator with 1-10 Trucks should have a choice to run eld. Expand the 150 mile radius to regional states on ,500 miles+ ;The eld should be required for large fleets and long haul drivers. Like I hear you aint gonna get rich driving a truck. But then people some did.Lol
