Thinking of ways to reduce the weight of a truck.

I thought why are fuel tanks metal and not plastic

I got a good one, ELECTRIC AUTONOMOUS TRUCKS would take care of all of it. Gets rid of the excess weight of a lard ### driver and the motor and the fuel tanks.

The weight savings would be very minimal. I can move a 90 gal aluminum fuel tank around pretty easily myself. Plus with plastic being as flimsy as it is and how its affected by heat/cold you'd need a pretty rigid and sturdy bracket to keep it from sagging out around the j-brackets and straps. Kinda defeats the purpose.

Seems legit. Just replace that heavy engine, transmission and fuel tanks with a few thousand pounds worth of batteries.

Because repeated hot and cold makes plastic brittle.

You obviously have no experience with plastic boat tanks.

No man, that wont work. Remember that fuel tanks must retain integrity during a drop of a certain height when filled.

If I was hired and saw plastic fuel tanks you will find another driver to replace me that same day.

i would think aluminum would be less likely to puncture in a accident as well. also i have replaced tanks on a truck before empty they really are not that heavy.

They're not even that heavy . You know they're made of aluminum right ?

The diesel is the heavy part at around 7.25 lbs per gallon which is actually less than the weight of water.

If you want to save real weight you need to spec a different truck . You ever see those short frame, extra short hood trucks with one fuel tank ?
