What if your ELD stops working in the middle of your trip?

Hmm...interesting. So, if my e-logs were stored locally on my iphone and I did not print them out every day and my ELD goes down, I now have to "reconstruct" previous 7 days? What does "reconstruct" mean? Doest it mean that I have to create 7 days of paper logs using "as far as I remember correctly" kind of logic? I don't know about rest of you guys, but the amount of gigabytes of memory in my head is very limited. And I don't normally remember what time exactly I did a 30 min break 6-7 days ago for instance. If I "reconstruct" past 7 days using the data source that was given to me by mother nature (which wasn't manufactured in China by the way), and then dot officer finds that some records do not match, can I still be cited for that ?

Now before you guys start telling me that I should have backed up, printed or saved e-log data because ELD apps are not reliable, I wanted to say a couple of things:

1. Please show me the law that requires driver to do so;
2. Garmin E-Log, the app that I was using, is 100% FMCSA compliant, and it says the data could be safely stored locally. I guess all questions regarding the functionality of Garmin ELD should be addressed to Garmin.
3. And lastly, if ELD apps are not reliable, why in the world the government is forcing us to use them?

 

I am sorry, but what "cloud"? The one that you normally see in the sky?

Garmin says that all data is stored locally. Again, this device is 100% government compliant.
