I recently got hired by this company for their flatbed division. I specifically stated I have no flatbed experience but was willing to give it a try, I was wrong on all accounts. To train someone on how to do flatbed work, they must have the new comers to "physically" to the strapping, tarping, and chaining. The drivers who were with Western were the ones getting on the trailers to do most of the setting up amd showing how the company wanted it done. Long story short, I quit the flatbed and went over to the dry van side. With 3 years non flatbed experience, I was still forced into doing a 2 week evaluation. For what reason? I have experience! Whatever you do, avoid Western Express like the plague.

So you're saying you had to the work yourself?...isn't that how you learn?Gunner75, RedBeardedT, nightgunner and 4 others Thank this.

I can see being shown what to do the first time then in turn us rookies get up there and do it. But I can see why western express didn't want us rookies up there since there were about 100 of us there. I am the kind of person who is "hands on".

Wow. 100!?
-
Western Express runs through driver like there is no tomorrow
-
I believe it. Out of those 100, me included, only 30 of us survived.

You were wise to recognize your limits. There are no end to potential errors one can make in load securement. Any of the errors will possibly cause the load to shift or even to depart the trailer, especially bad, at speed. This is not an indictment of you, just the opposite. Go with a starter, Maverick or others where you at least will get to start out with a trainer and some time to get you at least a basic sense of what to do.

my friend was there he barely made it, low miles and bad trucks and their max pay is 32 cpm in the northeast, he was only a month in and they tried to turn him into a trainer which they run as team, luckily he found something better before losing his apartment

Before coming to Western Express, I have 3 years prior experience pulling dry vans. Although they do not go to Illinois with their dry van side, I am happy just to be working.
