Any of you guys click on that map of the old CF Terminal in Fairbanks, Alaska the place almost looks occupied cut back the brush and weeds and it would look like CF was still there.
Alaska is usually kind of an odd ball state it's serviced by like Carlisel and Lyden, but CF they had there own terminal up there that CF logo forget UPS UPS claims to be the most dependable color on earth, but before there was UPS not that there the same thing CF was a freight company, but before there was UPS there was CF and UPS might boast coverage to Alaska, but CF was already there. CF already had there terminal right there in Fairbanks, I didn't see any other companies with a terminal there, but CF had one.
As someone once said long ago "Was there anything that great company (CF) couldn't do?"
The answer was back in there day no, there was nothing they couldn't do. As @DougA taught us if you walked into any freight office in the country any industry any where there was CF Tariff book on the shelf and a CF calendar on the wall. The CF sales force, was a force was out in droves it didn't matter Cleveland, Ohio or Fairbanks, Alaska the CF logo was there.

Isn't that cool picture! It must have been some special CF Alaska division truck because that certainly was not standard CF issue.
-
Those early Conway Fords had Cummins Big Cams set at 270hp with a 7 speed transmission. Must have been a miserable experience to pull a heavy set. lol
-
I guess CWX got Freightliners and CCX got the Fords. I guess CCX when they first started didn't have intrastate operating authority in Ohio ha-ha and so if you had a shipment that had to go from A-B in Ohio you couldn't ship it via CCX isn't that funny ha-ha!

Well that's no different the driving a 2017 Gordon Food Service Volvo that's capped at 63 miles with a 40,000lbs set you'll be crawling up every hill in 6th gear LOL!
-
Yeah LOL! Didn't CF go like bargain basement on all there main fleet equipment. Everything was specked as cheap as possible.bzinger Thanks this.

I wonder what type of engine and transmission the Alaskan CF trucks had? Hopefully better than what the lower 48 CF trucks had. lol
-
It would have had to be something special and not some mass produced base model truck like they were famous for ordering. I'm guessing that like every major fleet while they have there mass produced standard issue trucks, CF had a few specialty pieces thrown in there for specialty jobs like Alaska. I'm going to try to find that picture and see what it says.4mer trucker Thanks this.

I did some reading I guess CF did have some special units based out of Seattle, Washington that drove up to Alaska.
