Ya you can't just polish the stainless like that. It doesn't just go dull like aluminum does it goes dull cuz its practically getting sandblasted by all the bugs, rocks and road debris. In order to properly polish them they need sanded and I'm not skilled enough to do that and I don't know anyone around that is. Its a different ball game from polishing aluminum.
I appreciate the effort though. Only if it were that easy...

well dint have any expierince with breathers T6 dont have none lol but it worked with the stacks and shields when they got cloudy hope you find some way to get it done cheeper than buying new ones
-
why not chrome plate them like your pipes? chrome plating will stick to stainless steel no problem. hell you can even chrome plate plastic. so yes w9 you can have them plated. I know it will hold up cuz bumpers do. I wouldn't think it would be near as costly as new ones. oh yeah and in the plating process copper goes on first to fill minor scratches and dings.
550hpW900L Thanks this. -
With the right bar and wheel you can make them look new with enough work. I promise you its not easy but it can be done. We did two trucks last year and I am getting ready to touch up another soon. We also do our stainless fenders once a year.

You could paint them black or the color of the truck to get you by.

Stranger beat me to it. Paint them the color of your truck, and get new stainless bands, hardware, and maybe the top parts (bonnets?) -
Don't know anyone around this area that does chrome plating

Just use a stiff red wheel & coarse ruge with low speed. Take your time, if you go too fast it will blue. My truck had 600,000 on when my Dad taught me how to do it & they look like new.

You can buy NEW SS 15" aftermarket breathers for ~$600. Or, 4States has new 15" Vortox breathers w/ filter for ~$700. Sure beats $2k plus (EACH) at a dealer. They ought to have something to fit.

I use 3M Rubbing compound first. It is brown, and is basically liquid sandpaper. Works GREAT!
Step 2 with the green Pro40 polish, then lastly with White Diamond.
As for wheels, I use ones like those that were pictured. I use a med cut/light shine wheel first with the 3M comp and Pro40, then use a light cut/high polish wheel with the WD polish.
Use a 3/8" (install a keyless 1/2" chuck) variable speed electric drill. The cordless are to slow, eat batteries and get HOT!
DON'T use an electric 1/2" drill. WHEN they snag on something, it can and WILL hurt you. -
I had some pro polishers do all my aluminum the other day and they said that they could also do the stainless including the breather cans.
