Oooooh, Touchy Subject! Well, Mr. Tinman, You aren't the only one who feels this way. I'm 41, been OTR and... where ever I feel like going, for 14 years now. In those 14 years, I've had a few short-lived relationships for one reason or another, but as like you, haven't found that perfect match. I've found the situation is virtually the same for women, as it is for men.
Aside from the obvious 'I wonder what my other is doing while I'm away?' question, there's more to it than just that. If your mate is at home, then they pretty much live an independent life until your weekends arrive, and then you come home to completely disrupt their norm, then poof you're gone again. If you find a mate on the road, are they in your truck and your personal space, or are they in their own truck running side by side with you waving out the window, or are they in a completely different part of the world and you only see them once or twice a year? I don't mind the being alone part, but yes, some times I wish I had that perfect partner to share things with.
In my experience there's also a totem pole problem. The totem pole being where you and your perspective mate are at in your careers and goals. I own my trucks, trailers, and authority, so for me to date a company driver, that adds tension to things. I am free to make my own decisions, like where I want to go, when I want to work or not work, what I want to haul (cattle normally, but do I need to switch trailers for a break from my daily routine), do I want to keep this old truck or trailer, do I want to spend a bunch of money and buy something new, or any of the things I have complete control over, that I take advantage of. My company driving counter-part isn't able to choose what they want in all of those situations, so it adds to the frustration.
My advise is to figure out what you need, what you absolutely don't want, and where a compromise can be made. It's not whether the person (woman) is 5'9 and 115 lbs with long black hair, so much as it's the person inside. Who they are, how they make you feel when they are in your life.
The solution would be to ask yourself what you are looking for, and what you expect in & out of a relationship. What roles are you & your mate supposed to play? Do you want someone who has achieved more or less than you? Do their goals and dreams match that of your own? Would you be okay with someone out there doing what you do, without feeling inferior? What if they were the major bread winner? Where do you see yourself after trucking? IS there an 'after-trucking'? With available technology in this day and age, it's not as difficult to carry on a long-distance relationship as it used to be. Free cell phone minutes, Face Time, Text messaging, internet gifts, etc.
Go fishing with the knowledge that you might not catch anything that day and that's ok, but at least you were able to relax and maybe catch a good buzz. Then take all the empty beer cans back and use the money to buy more beer!Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
Without severe mental issues. An adult without a job is a sure sign of mental problems.
And being so fat that she can sit on a toilet and leave a ring on the outside is a sign of mental issues.Dave_in_AZ and AModelCat Thank this. -
All I've gotten from this thread is that Chinatown is your hookup for a green card.
Gin86, Ericd256, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this. -
I don't have any crazy requirements for women (like must be under 5'3, C-cups, blonde, super fit etc). If we mesh well, have fun together, she's not bonkers, puts some effort into her appearance and she can take care of herself, I see no reason to look for anyone else.

Well see touching upon the psycho B mystique is a whole separate issue, though they are linked.
I figured out awhile ago there basically two types of women:
The one's that are psycho, and the one's that are going to go psycho, not much middle ground.
I finally got my second X to get a job. When she got paid, I suggested we pay the light bill.
I was told in the harshest terms ( Like there will be no P ), that was her money.
I mean wtf was I thinking? I am ashamed.TripleSix Thanks this. -
You should be. You knew when you were trying to get her to be an adult that you were investing in something that was already rotten.Dave_in_AZ and ChaoSS Thank this.

I thought I had the one. But deep down she really didn't want me gone. Some issues of her own made things worse.
Single now....just me and my kiddo when I'm in town.TripleSix Thanks this.
