    What a woman!!!!

Side note that first movie was better than all the rest of the tremors series.

Dating/marriage while OTR is very difficult. I don't feel like you can have a truly satisfying, monogamous, romantic relationship with a person you see only 2-4 days per month. That has been my experience, but I'm sure there are couples who find ways to make it work. Good for them! Having a life outside of the truck is why I went local LTL, and I have never looked back.

I’m 24/female, newly married and currently enrolled in school to obtain my CDL. I’ve been considering OTR vs local employment once I graduate although I’ve had some concerns about going OTR simply because I won’t be able to see my husband that often. We are both independent and have a very trusting & honest relationship. We’re also both very focused on our own careers so because of that, we’re already familiar with putting in long hours (away from each other) with our current jobs...

Although it is a new marriage, we’ve been in a relationship for many years prior. He’s ensured me multiple times that he feels I should go with whichever path will make me happier. After talking to him in depth about each option for employment, I no longer have concerns because I beileve our marriage is strong enough to withhold either decision I make.

Oh course we shall see what happens down the road but for the time being, OTR is looking like a great option.

What was your current job before enrolling in school?

Just about every company that runs 28ft pup trailers has shuttle drivers who just do a drop and hook (usually at night). The LTL groups and the food service groups. I know Hub told you to ‘do your thing’ and ‘whatever makes you happy’, but that’s his way of being supportive. You can do your thing AND be home.

“Will they hire new drivers, Six?”

Some do. My sis went to FedEx and she just runs between Amazon and the airport. GRAVY. She says it’s boring. Gravy usually is. There are seafood restaurant, burger joints, barbecue pits, steakhouses, buffets...etc. Never seen a place with “gravy” in the title. That’s how boring gravy is.

Anyways, the easiest path is to run OTR for a year and then find a decent local job. But then, some of us don’t really like the easy path. What is it that you really want to do? What kind of freight you want to move? Do it. Right out the gate. Go for the gusto and rock and roll for a year and build your resume. Call your lovin man and talk dirty to him.
BTW, there are a bunch of bootysniffers and horn dogs in this industry, so keep your business YOUR BUSINESS. Your name, your truck number, your company, your marital status, kids...whatever. No one needs to know. And lewd talk is unacceptable. Walk as soon as it starts. You’re a married woman, remember?

Will page @Chinatown and perhaps he can give you some more ideas

    Luck in battle.

Thank you for the advice ;-)

I’m currently a manager at a large dog boarding & training kennel based out of New England. Great job but I’ve been in the industry for a while and I’m looking to move on. It does involve long days/nights and a lot of commitment. I realize that trucking will require the same things so I’m not to concerned as this is already a familiar aspect in regards to time spent with my husband.

I appreciate the reminder about keeping private information to myself when it comes to living otr. I know there are some “unfavorable” people in the trucking industry but of course the same can be said for every other industry as well. It’s just one of those things..don’t be a idiot and tell strangers to much of anything personal.

I have a special interest in Tanker/hazmat and that is ultimately what I would like to end up hauling. I love your advise about “just going for it”...I’ve heard some different opinions from different people in regards to what they think new drivers should be doing and I enjoy hearing the opinions but I think it’s still really important to stay focused on your end-goal..

    Thanks again for your advice!

Ok, I see that you are in the New England area.
    Just a suggestion to help...
US Foods is hiring delivery drivers and I will personally guarantee that it would be the highest paid driving job that you will find.. experienced or newbie. Figure on average about $1600.00 or more per week, as compared to $350.00-$800.00 per week doing OTR for; Werner, Knight, Schneider, Swift, Conway, etc.
The hours are long (however, so are the hours in the entire industry) and the work is physical, but not particularly difficult, and you will be home every day.
They are hiring big time up in Seabrook, N.H. along with several other locations.
    Good luck!
