We are in the customer service business, the customer provides our income - like it or not. And we are in a highly competitive business where my biggest competitor isn't the mega but the marginal owner who runs his trucks on a shoestring budget trying to squeeze every penny out of it and screwing over the drivers.
I wish she would understand also that I don't just post for her or the other ops we have, but those who will read it and think about the reality of this business.dunchues, Justrucking2, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
Six is actually trying to help you. There is no malice in his posts, but he is forward and to the point. It's called life!
And, by starting this post I believe that any advice you receive is solicited. Read other posts in other threads by Six and get a feel for his experience and knowledge.
Good luck and Happy New Year to you and your partner.dunchues, SAR, Dan.S and 1 other person Thank this. -
As a ex Swift driver and L/O there, I will tell you that if you are not happy with Houston then you can talk to other drivers from different terminals and switching terminal and DM is not a problem with Swift. Houston has always been a dump for most, but I remember some drivers out of there where very happy. You can see where I live and my terminal was IGH, and before that, Lewiston, and that as a L/O back then, Columbus was not really set up for solo L/O

Maybe I did assume Six had more arrogant or hostile intentions than he did. I will completely accept that as possible since the written format is not the most expressive. I felt he made a lot of assumptions about myself, my situation, and my feelings about certain things, without having the proper information to come to an accurate and informed conclusion. Though I would say the sexist hostility did lend itself to my original assumption. Referring to myself as female is not special pleading... it's just a descriptor for christ's sake. I see not much difference in describing myself as "I am a woman" and "I am a person." I don't see the need to pussyfoot around the word "woman" just so people won't assume I want special treatment. Those are my thoughts on the subject, and they remain.
And for the record, I generally only take "life advice" from people whom I know and can evaluate their personal understanding of the subjects being discussed. A person is a fool if they just take any random advice given by any random person. I take my advice from verifiably reliable sources of reasoned and educated thoughts on any particular subject. Six, nor anyone on a random message board, would meet that criteria. The very simple question of "which companies might hire someone with 6 months experience and meet these requirements" did not require any life advice. Perhaps it was my mistake for even offering a glossing over of reasons for leaving in the first place. I suppose that could be seen as invitation to offer opinions on those reasons. Lesson learned, and thank you.
I'm not inexperienced in the workforce, and I feel that I have a good baseline for understanding what is reasonable to deal with, and what isn't. And also what is reasonable for ME to deal with, as each person is different and better or worse suited to particular situations as the next person. I glossed over my reasons for leaving in my OP, since they did not seem all that relevant, as I was not asking anyone's permission or approval to leave, simply suggestions on where might be a good place to look next. We are leaving. We have found what we consider to be a wonderful opportunity that fits our goals and desires much better than our current situation.
We appreciate the suggestions, and I will try not to take the bait so hard in the future. I still can't see myself as quite the one in the wrong, since originally all I did was politely reject offered advice and then I was bit and insulted repeatedly for it, but perhaps I should be better about ignoring what I do not find useful, instead of addressing it.
I may or may not check in on this thread again, as I have very little interest in further arguing, and the original mission of the post has been accomplished. Happy New Year, everyone! I hope it is a wonderful year for all of you.Sirscrapntruckalot, aussiejosh, Lonesome and 8 others Thank this. -
