When I called around I was given quotes of $25k+ for insurance in Florida if i got my own authority, OOIDA included.
One insurance rep gave me a *wink wink* over the phone telling me if I "didn't move to Florida and had everything set up in Tennessee" I'd save a lot on my quote.
Before I got out the truck my previous 7 1/2 days as a team, we sat a little over one day.
Looking at my numbers 5370 miles and grossed $20,375 .
As of Tuesday my driver will be out solo one week (sat one day due to one customer screwing the truck.)
Numbers on that, 2266 miles grossed $10,500. 3 loads, starting in Florida ending in Wisconsin.
Truck was doing very well before elog mandate too but that certainly gave it a boost.
Many of these brokers have done past business with the carrier. Mostly all owner operators here and a track record of being on time and giving good service. I'm not saying that, the brokers tell me.
So when a hot reefer load needs to be covered asap and can't risk a screw up I'm sure that plays huge factor in me getting the rates I do.
That aged mc and track record is also part of the value I'm talking about.
I doubt I could pull off those numbers with a broker seeing a new one truck mc, they just don't give out these good loads to anybody. Soo yes I think it is "worth it".
For the record I don't think I would have had the confidence to go out basically on my own if it were not for the other Schneider drivers whom left before me and done it themselves. They've shared with me, helped me and answered questions of mine. You know who you are, thank you.
Overall theme from those drivers to me and now me onto whomever is listening...
Stop getting screwed and allowing the carriers to keep all the money, there is a lot of money out here....go get it!
It's been 2 1/2 years this thread has been going....
Biggest and most important thing I've learned over these years and my career is most all carriers do NOT care about their drivers and if you rely on them for freight they will make every attempt to keep and/or steal as much money for themselves as possible!
If it be company drivers paid peanuts per mile, cheap mileage O/O programs you know all those endless $1 per mile and we'll dispatch you and last but not least the phony percentage programs where money is stolen from you one way or another. The fact a carrier can broker a load to themselves, keep however much they want and then take a second cut out when they offer it to their O/Os is the most sickening thing of them all!!!
I am forever done relying on a carrier for my freight. Us drivers are really getting screwed out here! Then they all say there's a "truck driver shortage" and wonder why!
How about pay drivers more and not treating them like trash, that would do the trick!
That's the real shaddy story of trucking they don't tell you in CDL school.

@freightwipper id like to add one thing for you to keep in mind. Im going on 23 yeasts of owning trucks, and in all that time i have never known of a 90% pay carrier to last long term. A couple customers going under and sticking the carrier with 30 to 75k dollar unpaid freight bills is enough to put them under. 10% minus all the expenses of running a trucking company doesn't leave much to make out through tough times.
Im not trying to shoot holes in your gig, just want ya to keep your eyes and ears open to potential problems down the road. Especially once the eventual downturn in the economy happens. Have an exit strategy set and prepared just in case. And execute it immediately if funny things start happening like settlement checks not showing up for a couple days. You don't want to end up like some of those f2f guys that never got paid for their last 2 weeks of loads.Last edited: Dec 31, 2017

They've been around a while and I get paid quick, even faster than Schneider and I'm doing broker loads. Looked at the own authority route and compared it to the 90% gig I'm doing and this overall fit me better.

Rates currently are very similar to 2014. Those that were on SNI Choice in 2014, are current rates similar? If not why? Keep in mind these are average rates. In many cases they are much, much higher.. I remember back in 2014 guys were absolutely cleaning house on Choice. If the numbers are similar now, then IC's should be rolling in cash yet again.

There's more live load than ever before on the board and more cheaper freight shown than on the past.
I'm here for same reason I was in 2014, because of my familiarity with SNI and being able to be home when I want. Albeit I am deadhead ing home alot further now and may make a change in the spring.driverdriver, PoleCrusher, Scott72 and 2 others Thank this. -

I stayed with Sni for convenience but at some point the jerking became more than the convenience part. So I had to go.. Just like someone posted online, it's a good program for a person with a paid off truck.. Other than that eh it's not worth it anymore
