I have DX949 and I had a cheap mag mount ant. it worked ok. So I bought a wilson ant and went to a local shop and had them install it and swr tune it. Well now I can not receive or send. So I hooked up the old ant. and nothing either. Do you think they fried my radio? I am in Colorado Springs if anyone knows of a shop or another pro please let me know. It is a real hardship with no radio. Thanks

id try the radio on someone elses vehicle that has a propper antenna and a known working radio in it .

if it still wont work then the radio is the problem . good luck getting the shop to take responsability for it though !! if it wont key up then how did they set the swr on the antenna ? i think theyll say it was dammaged after it left their shop . what was the swr of the antenna after they tuned it ? what is the swr currently ?

either way . i wouldnt let them touch my equipment again .

As long as it wasn't modded at all, or the mods weren't the cause of the problem, Galaxy will give you a new radio (all models come with a factory 2-year warranty). Just call them and send it back to them, or try exchanging it where you got it from.

Thanks Guys!! I tried the rodio in a freinds truck and it worked. So it is either the ant. or a ground issue. I would like to find someone in Colorado two work on it. As I am not a teckie type. LOL I love playing hate insalling or repairs. I am looking at the Texas Star or Fatboy products to help out any sugestions. I can get a TEXAS STAR DX 500V for $200 but I do not know enough about it . But it sounds like a good move. Thanks for all your help.

i think that would be a great choice for that radio and that is a great price !!!
i run a 500V behind my uniden 78 and i love that amp . its ab biased so you have clean ssb as lond as you dont over drive the amp . its good for about 500 -550 clean watts and 2 C-nots is a great deal for one in good working condition . thats what i paid for mine ($180+$20S&H) .

did you get a mag mout or hole mount wilson 1000 ? wilson had had some problems with their fiberglass antenna but the others are about the same as ever...........very good performance for the money spent .

im thinking there is a coax (pinched) or a mount (short) problem somewhere since the radio works in a different vehicle and the previous antenna doesnt work now either . what vehicle is it mounted on and where is it mounted ? what is the vswr of the 1000 currently ?
this will tell you how to test your antenna and coax for shorts/contiunity .

a simple $2 contiunity tester from wally world will do .

Thanks BM I found the problem at the site you refered me to (Check the ground on the radio - not the power ground. You may need to add an additional ground wire from the chassis of the radio to actual metal ground.) I grounded the chassis and it fired rite up awsome.I guess the mounting bracket is a poor ground. I would still like to find someone to help install the amp. Colorado, N.Texas, New Mexico so if anybody is out there peae let me know. CB techs are a dieing breed around here I guess LOL Again thanks for all your help.

The best CB guy around is in Denver. If you go to the T/A on the eastside of town, his shop is north of the truckstop on the side street. Just pull out of the back gate and you will go straight into his lot. His name is Chuck and he will treat you right.
