There are no pet exemptions to the anti idle law. Period.
I'm still fighting this BS, but in the meantime, my husband is well taken care of. We have a "jump start" power box in the truck that will keep the electric blanket going for 14 hours, and recharges off the cigarette lighter in just 2 hours. We have the electric blanket, and a "cooler" set up for summer.
The power box costs $139 at Sears; I bought ours at an auction for $30.

Where am I going to find a driver to help me withthe "jump"?I will make a heavy gauge jumper with an alligator clip on 1 end, attached at my truck battery on the other and clamp onto the reefer when need to keep powered.

10-4 mag posted in the QA section on June 2008 an answer to this question. A senior trooper from the TX HP commented that there is NO DOT regulation addressing anti-idle laws and pets. He noted that this is a state by state issue and that the driver would have to check with the laws in each state to see if you would be allowed to idle
rjones56 Thanks this. -
So if electric blankets run down the batteries in a 8 hour time frame then how do ya'all stay warm
-
I don't run the electric blanket off the truck's batteries. I run it off a "jump start" power box. Works well. Like I said, I can get 14 hours out of it.
oldcornbinder and Baack Thank this. -
The anti idle laws SUCK!

#### the man!!!!!! when you live in the great white north you need to leave it running at night trust me my very first trip I was told the boss didn't like idling the trucks that's why he installed bunk heaters so I shut off the truck had a nice warm sleep got up and the truck was stone dead. Turns out the bunk heater is great for a few hrs or going in for supper but not for any amount of time. Shutting off the lights is always a good idea keeps more than the law away.

for the guys hauling a reefer heard you can run accessories off the alternator or use it to recharge truck batteries since it has to run anyway
-
Another whole issue on this topic is those of us who have sleep apnea. We need to use a CPAP machine all night while sleeping.
My CPAP machine draws more than the batteries of the truck are rated to provide for 8 hours.
Per CARB I can not idle even to power a CPAP machine which I am REQUIRED to use per the FMCSA's medical certification guidelines.
So.. those of you worrying about pets.. CARB won't even give an exemption for a person for a medically required device. -
Hmmm.... let me work on this one. I think I can find a phrase that may make an exception that could be argued in court if you need to....
