Hi I am in Ontario. Buying a truck after driving many years. What I thought was any easy answer I can't seem to get anyone to know for sure. When I buy the truck do I need to get a safety done immediately or is the annual if in the last year good? Do I walk in to MTO with Emmisions, Safety, Bill of Sale and am good to go after paying taxes?

I'd like to think it's the same in ON as it is here in SK, in that as long as the current inspection has not expired, you don't need to do it at this time. However, if it's close to needing an inspection, might as well do it now for peace of mind if nothing else.

I hope so. Truck looks great and Annual was just in September.

If I recall correctly you need the 36 day inspection cert before going to ministry.

What is that? A safety in the last 36 days?

It's $25. You can't afford $25 to make sure your up to and touching?

Awesome. Do most shops do this?

Any TA or Petro. Most full service shops should offer it.
Some guys pencil whip it though without really checking anything.
I had one issued with a cracked front brake pad once. That's a shut down violation.sexyredhead Thanks this. -
I just have to get it 120 miles to our own shop from where I am buying it then they will do annual and emissions. I have a dealer plate but don't know what I need with that?

Since you are here in Ontario you will need a new annual safety done on the truck and an emissions test before you can get your license plates, if you have a dealer plate you can use this to move the truck to your shop to have the work done. The annual sticker that is on the truck is not any good once for you.
