In a nutshell, some Sams Clubs are closing because they were built to close to a competitor, Walmart. The same day Walmart announced a minimum wage increase to $11 an hour and a bonus of up to $1000 to select employees after passage of the new tax bill. All of this according to the Motley Fool.
Why Wal-Mart Is Closing 63 Sam's Club Stores
I think all you old drivers are going to be just fine. New drivers, well at least they should know what they are getting into.
Who is to blame for the change of operations concerning drivers? I would blame the Wall Street ######. Big money managers who own millions of shares of Walmart pressure Walmart management to take cost cutting measures to squeeze an extra penny per share per quarter profit. Maybe these same money managers own shares of Swift or other trucking companies, so it is a double win for them.
This is the dark side of capitalism and the dark side of being a publicly traded company. Other people tell you how to manage your own company.MagnumaMoose, Mike2633, Hammerdowntrucker and 3 others Thank this. -
I was in a "grass roots" meeting with a room full of drivers and a couple fresh out of college know it all pencil pusher types from Bentonville AR., the companies home office. One of the senior drivers complained that Sam Walton wouldn,t have done things to us like this, and Mr smart butt told him and the rest of us, "Sam isn,t here anymore". Meaning basicly, the changes were coming and if we didn,t like it, leave!RandForeman, Mike2633, Western flyer and 1 other person Thank this.

Funny last time I logged in all anybody could do was whine the ROC couldn't find their rear end with both hands and a road map. That there was no accountability for their mistakes.
Now they are consolidatingvthem, and holding them more accountable and suddenly your all worried about the poor fine folks losing their jobs.
Except they didn't any more than the Sam's Associates did. And even those that chose, yes chose to leave because they did not want to transfer, move, or be retrained were still given 2 months pay.
But hey why let facts get in the way of a good old fashioned fairy tale.
Yes they want to consolidate some redundant systems like have 2 dispatch centers when it can be done with 1.Steel Dragon Thanks this. -
I worry about that industry wide.
it starts when they get to the first recruiter at the schoolyard. That person paints a palatial life of luxury and riches while carefully leaving out the dirty side down.
I actually hate to pick on recruiters so much. I think there were about two who were actually worth a ####, one in ATS at NC who did proper and the other in FFE Memphis.Steel Dragon and foggy Thank this.
