I usually get CODs to places like Menards or Home Depot. Who haven't done COD since God was a kinder gardener.
I always tell my dispatcher what's what and she says "well that's where I'm going with it".
her: Call me when you get there, and we can sort it out then.
me: NO, sort it out NOW. So I don't get waylaid by a mistake on the shippers\interline carriers end. Or I CAN GUARANTEE you this is being returned. These people DO NOT do COD.
Then there is the Residential that is COD, but OK to leave.
Spend two hours on an Amish load, that was supposed to be COD. Get there and talk to the leader, its pre-paid, but was supposed to be delivered by another carrier (not mine). So it got flagged COD. Finally got a hold of the shipper. He has the check in hand. Relay it to the carrier, she has no idea what's going on. My dispatcher wants the freight back.
Carrier wants a check, shipper is PO'd about the whole mess, and I'm enjoying a nice conversation with the leader at the colony farm.

When I started at the beer company Wal-Mart was a Pay on Delivery stop. Do you know what a pain it is to get a payment check from Wal-Mart? It's like almost as bad as what you described!

If I’m not mistaken, you have to on a tow from front, correct? Also, if it’s an automatic I think they have to connect the back drive shaft. Anyone correct me if I’m wrong.

Yea we had to do that too it was a serious pain also the grocery store chain I worked at got behind on the bills and they where 60 days behind they about died when I told them I couldn't unload 2k worth of beer till I got them at least 30 days current after long calls to the home office they busted open the safe and paid

No. Depending on what's wrong you can just supply air from the tow unit to the towed unit and release the brakes that way. And the transmission (auto vs manual) doesn't matter, if you tow from the front either the drive axles need to be pulled or the drive shaft needs to be pulled. The transmission shouldn't be turning while the engine is off.Mike2633 Thanks this.

I’d love to have seen the look on the Wal-Mart yahoo’s face after being told they need to produce money.

Most of the time they new the drill after taking an hour to check in they would hand you the invoice and you would run up to the service desk and the book keeper would print you a money orderMike2633 Thanks this.

No I didn’t cage the breaks. My impact wouldn’t fit under and didn’t feel like doing by hand so I hooked an air line up. This truck I pulled a drive shaft on. Sometimes I’ll pull an axel. Always pull an axel on coach buses. For a tandem tractor there’s ways to tow from front without doing either. Just have to do it correctly and nothing will get damaged.
I would’ve rather towed it backwards. I got the equipment for the steering wheel tie downs and tie downs for the flares on top of the truck. Normally for a tractor old school sling them from the rear. When you tow a tandem tractor with air suspension, you have to chain up the front axels. Me being fat and lazy I just sling it and everything is covered.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Our people were always confused and the check process changed every time you went there. It was a major pain.
