Never hauled sand but you should be fine, only thing is the trailer wont be as full as if it was a 3 hopper.
-
I ran with an owner op who had one. It didn't take him any longer to load or unload. He had the same amount of sand #48k, as everyone else. it was kind of overkill though as fully loaded would only fill up 1/2 his trailer. His trailer was a bit taller though.

Technically it would work, but not ideal. Loading may require more effort to not over axle. The basic stuff like top air and steel drop tees (or hog Tees) will still be required.
900 to 1300 cubic feet are ideal. -
Thanks everyone for the response I just found a really good deal on one and was going to use it to get started with.

In North Colorado, pneumatics should start going for cheap, boxes are taking over. Just finished our last pneumatic job lasy week.

Boxes are starting to take over everywhere. Been seeing a lot of them up here in pa/wv/oh as well

4 pod will work fine, no difference loading load it above the pod just rear of center, maybe you might have to split between 2 center lids, but probably just center rear. Check axle weights on every load as you pull off the scales.the sand will spread as it loads, unloading will take a bit longer because you have 1 more pod to deal with. The main reason to use doubles for frac sand is you dont have to worry about axle weights on double, on a 4 pod semi you do.
bottomdumpin Thanks this. -
They are, but it's not necessarily a good thing. They pay much worse per load compared to a pneumatic with the reasoning being that you should be able to run more loads per day. But when those boxes are stacked 200 deep at the railhead trying to get loaded or you have a 400+ mile round trip LOH like we do out here in West Texas, I can't see how they are making much.

Around my area 50 mi turn paid 350 a load from sand box. I see a lot of O/O around my area pulling boxes
