Hello it's my first time posting on the forum, but I've come through here numerous times in the past for different information. Not sure if this is the correct forum for this thread, but today I was wanting to know of anyone that has relocated their splitter and range valves from the shifter to the dash. If so, what air switch/toggle/model number did you use? It's for a 1988 Peterbilt 379 with the 15 speed overdrive. With it being a 15 speed, I don't use the splitter at all so I figured I'd go with the hotrod look of a ball type shift knob. I know the air lines are 5/32, but is there a compatible air valve of that size? I was told before it was an easy job to do, but didn't get any detailed instructions. Appreciate any help and advice.

The older trucks with 15 speeds ran the split for deep reduction on the dash like a power divider switch. The range switch was a push pull knob clamped to the shifter.
To plum it that way you tee into the air line that is only supplied air in low range coming out of the push pull knob, it will be the supply for your deep split rocker on the dash. That way should you put it in deep reduction and forget and split it to the high side it will loose it's air pressure and the spring will kick it out. You sure don't want to make a range shift to high and be in deep when you do -
That's what I was worried about when doing this. I could shift the thing in my sleep, but you know sometimes you have those split second decisions or a brain fart.

I don't like it. As explained by Woreout.
I want everything on that shifter. -
What Wore said ^^^^.... Trust me your not going to be the first truck with a transmission Lo / Lo splitter on the dash. Put a old style push / pull on the shifter as Wore said and you'll look Oldskool but you Won't be Oldskool cause I'm Oldskool ( see my screen name )
. You can get a switch from a truck in salvage yard or just buy new, they make fittings to adapt to air line size so no big deal there. Just follow Wore's directions and you'll be fine.
Be safe out there.wore out, Bean Jr., Mighty1 and 1 other person Thank this. -

I appreciate the tips. I have a buddy out of Louisiana that used to own this flatcab 379 with a stand up sleeper called Old Number 7 that had the same set up I was asking about with an 8 ball shift knob, and I just thought that was the coolest #### thing in the world when I saw the truck.
