Well I've missed quite a bit here. But when your eld has a brain fart you still need to back it up with paper logs.
So my choice is no eld. They are not the problem, or the answer. But the eld is one step closer to autonomous trucks manned or not is up to the genius law makers. And the next generation trucker may as well be a babysitter. This is just my thoughts not facts in any way proven. -
Really? How do you get it "moving " then without a driver??? You say "Abracadabra" and it's moving?
Wait,I will try that! Be right back!
Nah,this ####ing truck didn't move an inch! What else do I need to do besides saying "Abracadabra" to make it moving???
Trucks don't make ####.There is plenty of trucks parked around Chicagoland and none of them makes any money!Last edited: Jan 30, 2018
easytopleez33 Thanks this. -
Because you're a part, just like a starter. If I own a truck, and I book freight for that truck to move, and the driver calls and says I'm broken so the trucks not moving, I'll replace the driver just like I would a broken starter.
Now don't take that as cold as it sounds, a driver is obviously a person and an employee, and should be treated as such. But when it comes down to it, the reality is a driver is a replaceable component of a truck. Now if as a driver you realize this, it can be to you're benefit. But if your attitude is that you're something special because you managed to wake up and breathe air, don't be surprised when you get replaced.Oxbow, Ruthless and gentleroger Thank this. -
You must be living in some truck owner paradise then. Here in Chicagoland replacing starter doesn't take weeks.Finding a driver does.
What I as a driver realize is that I can have another job within 6 minutes. They won't find a driver in 6 minutes.Maybe in 6 days if they pay really good.
I just spoke with my former employer. He has 2 trucks sitting for 3 weeks already. He's looking for drivers so I guess these parked trucks don't make him any money. The point I am making is that for a half decent driver replacing you and your truck is much easier than for to replace a driver.Last edited: Jan 31, 2018
TallJoe, easytopleez33, Tb0n3 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I heard MBT were paying 55 cpm going West and also paying for 34 hr restart, they stopped taking 75 dol for loading the trailer. ELD might have done good for them drivers. in 2013 I was paid 38 c per mile going West, by an owner out of Chicago, much better now.mp4694330 and diesel drinker Thank this.

A Chicago based OTR driver wants 1500-2000 a week. That's their market price now.
mp4694330, diesel drinker, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
So, take every part of the truck out of the equation except the driver.
Now show me a driver that can move 44k lbs across town, much less across the country.
Do that and dinner is on me.
And your former employer not being able to find drivers? Maybe they're inept or something. Companies hire and fire drivers by the truckload every day.
