Ah, Day cabs...We are mostly local, but when we do go out of town overnight, our biggest problem is looking for a hotel with big truck parking. Then head for the pool or hot tub...life is good in the ol day cabber.
Of course now its winter and bad weather and I'm sittin at home not workin'. Guess you can't win em all.

I will probably do as I`ve always done. When its naptime I usually find an out of the way quiet spot thats free of traffic.I`ll just hope for the best when I have to let my truck idle.Wonder what would happen if I don`t answer the knock on the door?If its very cold then maybe, just maybe, they will leave.Or my luck-knock the door glass out. Then make me leave.
-
If they break out your window with out a warrant or premission from the company then that is illegal trespassing / breaking and entering.
If they knock on your door and you do not answer they can choose to stay or leave. -
Of course if your a owner op you can always invest in one of the apu's on the market. If company you can start bugging your company to put them on the trucks

I am almost positive that all you need is a perscription from your doctor and you are able to idle the truck. It falls under the "medical necessity" (forget what its actually called) part of the law. Chack with your doctor and you should be good to go.
-
Sorry.. nope.. idling a truck for power for a CPAP machine for sleep apnea is NOT a medical necessity (actually the CARB regulation only allows idling to prevent a "medical emergency"). Per multiple e-mails and an in person meeting with CARB idling for a CPAP machine can be planned for in advance so they will not grant an execption. In fact even when making a formal request for accomodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act they have refused the request for accomodations stating my employer is responsible to install an APU and make accomodations compliant with their regulations or not dispatch me to CA........
The basic response has been... if you come to CA do not idle and if you do not like it... take us to court.. we go to court all the time. -
Can you tell me how many watts the blanket uses? If you can run it 14 hours of the little jumper box, then it shouldn't drain the truck batteries plugged into an inverter. An inverter should not be set up to run off all the truck's batteries anyway. Or is it 12 volt plugged into an accessory outlet??? Now I'm a little confused... anyway, if it is a 12 volt the accessory outlet can be wired to a single battery and the remaining three will almost always start the truck.
-
That works so long as you have a battery isolator installed. Otherwise it doesn't matter which battery it is attached to as they are all connected.
-
It's a 60 watt blanket.

A inverter should not be set up to run off the trucks batteries?
Then were the heck do you suppose to have it run off of our a++ or a little person on bicycle that has a generator on the wheel.
If you work for a company they have rules against idleing all the time so it has to run off the batteries besides you can not hook it straight up to the alternator I think you would have issues with it burning up the inverter putting too much juice to the inverter.
