Got pulled over by dept of safety righ outside of Agusta GA comin through SC. He didnt like where my tandems were and wrote me a $100 ticket. He claims it doesn't put any points on my license. There was no scale and the only proof of weight was the BOL. Any truth to what he said? Violation is "over tandem length 45/41" in a regular old 53 dry van. He looked for anything he could, even asked what the speed limit was. I told him "45, i was doin 35"
Ticket for tandems?

Did he measure anything? Did he do a DOT inspection? And do you have a copy of your BOL and a cat scale?
-
many states have max kingpin to rear axle laws some are measured to the center of the rear most axle others to the center of the group but if you were stretched out too long for where you were running no scale needed to write that ticket.
delta5, rabbiporkchop, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yeah, but is this gonna hurt my license?
-
So, it wasn't a BS ticket? Well, go ahead and pay it. It's a non moving violation.
rabbiporkchop, laaylor, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
it won't help it but i can't see it being a huge deal. its not a moving violation, you shouldn't get fired for it unless you already have several other mess ups
mind your p's and q's pay more attention next timerabbiporkchop, tscottme, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have the BOL. No scale ticket. No inspection.Oxbow Thanks this.

I know this has nothing to do with your question, but I am trying to figure out why you were running the trailer tandems so far back. Yes, it was just a hundred bucks and it doesn't hurt your record, but that was you handing away an easy c note for no reason. I can't see losing a hundred bucks just because...that's unnatural.Broke Down 69, mustang190, dunchues and 7 others Thank this.

Your ticket has nothing to do with your BOL. Its over length, even if you were empty, would not matter. He simply looked at your trailer going don the road your axle was less than say 3 panels from the rear your over 40.
rabbiporkchop, tscottme, Justrucking2 and 4 others Thank this. -
I asked about the BOL because I thought that he had the axles slid back because he was heavy. The only reason why I wouldn't have the tandems all the way forward would be because of the axle weights.Broke Down 69 Thanks this.
