I could rant all day about sales but I won’t. That’s not exactly what this is about. Without them, I wouldn’t have any freight to broker. But they also create 90% of my headaches.

I went from breakeven on a load to -$900 bc my sales person forgot to call the customer and let them know we have a truck for their load. Then on top of that, I have to be the bearer of bad news that the load isn’t available anymore to this driver who was there on time, with everything we needed him to have.

Then on top of that, my salesperson can’t ask the customer for a TONU bc the person is a ####### who got us into this mess in the first place. Most salespeople I’ve dealt with are so out of touch with the #### drivers have to go through on a regular basis. It’s unbelievable. This salesperson wanted me to make something up so we wouldn’t have to get this guy a TONU. I just can’t be that heartless man. Sometimes it really does make me wonder how long I can do this job for ha

Never have. Never even been in one before. We pay pretty quickly but I don’t think we do quick pay. I send most calls and questions about billing to the billing department right away ha

Trust me when I tell you this, I’ve lost thousands of dollars in one day and I’ve made tens of thousands in one day. You never know when you’re going to get that big money load again, so you need to make sure you have that money when the going gets tough.

If I made a thousand or a couple thousand on a load, you’re getting paid for detention, for layover for whatever the hell you need. If I’m losing big money on a load and you need detention or layover or whatever, I’m gonna do everything I can not to pay it or pay the full amount.

If I could pay every driver at least $2 a mile on every load we did, paid for all detention in full, replace tarps and whatever else you need I’d do it! I’ve got a lot of respect for drivers in this industry. But I’ve got a job to do and you’ve got a job to do. If I don’t do my job well enough, they’ll find some heartless ######## that’ll play dirty broker all day long.

So it's XPO then. I used to work at a company that did a ton of work with Menlo Government Services. I suspect they do a ton of business with you guys now.

EDIT: And this whole industry is terrible for work life balance. At least if you work from home you can goof off when it's slow. Also keeps your overhead really low. You'd be disturbed how much money I make for how much brokerage I generate. I do everything but setup/billing/putting up the money and I keep 60%. And this is with a brokerage whose MC starts with a 3, has perfect credit, and gets my paperwork done close to instantly (10 minute setups).

You should speak with a Owner Operator or a really good friend who has a semi. Take you for a few hour run preferably mixing a good mountain with city work.

It wont take much to shake out any misunderstanding of trucking. I got into this industry because I was a big kid who thought tonka truck were fun. That was a long time ago. They are still fun. Regulations have become a Medusa choking it out one dozen boas at a time.

YOU CANT DO THAT...You should know that- If a Claim is Filed through the Motor carrier's Insurance company within the 12 month Law, TRANSPORTATION costs Are separate than a claim.

If Your Customer refuses to pay you, Then it is between you and Customer to resolve. The Agreement between you and Carrier Should Stipulate Claim procedures-

Only Way a Carrier is exonerated from freight charges is If Claim is Filed On Site and Customer Rejects Entire Product and Carrier is Welcome to All Salvage.

Again, You CANNOT Hold transportation charges from a carrier In Lieu of a freight Claim.

I’d love to have the opportunity. I’ve got a couple friends back home that could probably take me for a ride. I can use my imagination for the mountains ha. Heights and a lack of control over the situation would drown me in anxiety.

I promise if it were up to me, I’d pay it. 90% of the time I tell billing to pay out anyways but I get overruled most of the time if the customer hasn’t paid.

I know it’s messed up but what’s the average carrier going to do if we hold pay? Are they going to drop everything and sue us? 99.99999% of the time the carrier just sucks it up and waits.

I had a guy who hauled a load of some pretty fragile material that’s very inexpensive and easily damaged. Took the load for me in September and still hasn’t gotten paid. I can’t get anyone to budge on releasing pay until “the claim is resolved.”

The customer has even paid in full for this load. It’s a bit of a rare occurance but I have a handful of carriers who haven’t been paid since they hauled for us in sept/oct bc of stupid little nitpicky ####t like that.
