Winter Wrecks Pics

Here are some more, taken today...12-9. Two pics, same wreck...no tractor around...must have been taken away. I can't tell what the company is either. I did have some other pics of another accident, but they didn't turn out as it was dark on my way home.

Pretty much, it snowed up here in WY yesterday in the afternoon and then apparently overnight it snowed some more. I80 was shut down in Rawlins for a bit this morning, not sure how long, due to a tanker, I believe, that rolled.

 

Id say that there are many reasons for the accidents...but usually its a combination such as ice and speed...etc. I see tons of drivers going very fast in the left lane when there is a steady group of people doing 45 in the right. The veterans are the ones who are slowing down. I've had to slow down a bit the last few weeks, its only added about 15 minutes to my day...its not like you are going to have a sheet of ice for 300 miles. Sure there ARE long stretches...but take your time, slow down.

advice for new drivers:
*slow down, keep an eye out for dangers...plenty of space between you and others around you
*learn the types of ice out there, morning ice, black ice...patchy ice...etc.
*learn how to put on chains quickly. And correctly.
*get the numbers of state road conditions, so you can call and find out what is going on.
*get a CB...don't have to use it all the time but it comes in handy in bad weather
*keep supplies on the truck such as wipers, washer fluid..etc.
*emergency kit of food youd never eat (seriously...if you get good tasting food, youll eat it right away, but if you get crap...youll only eat it in emergencies) and other goodies such as blanekts, candles...etc
*be mindful of built up ice on trailers that you have or pick up...might cause a problem with coupling or uncoupling.

 

Got some more pics today. A storm came through western WY and Utah, although most of the brunt of the storm was in Utah...the roads in WY got bad enough just to cause some problems. Im only taking pics of wrecks with trucks, only saw two accidents today I think with trucks...saw quite a few cars tossed around here and there.


I know the quality isn't good on this, although I was about a half mile away so this is at 48x zoom, lol. Look carefully though:
*Prime truck behind the snowplow
*behind prime truck, facing backwards and on the exit ramp is a Covenant truck. Hard to see, though.
Im not sure what happened here, but the guard rail as you can see was hit. Traffic was stopped in both directions. I took this from an exit as I parked there for about 20 or so minutes as the westbound traffic was stopped at the top of the hill and I figured if the roads were icy and I had t stop, I might not be able to get going again.
