While getting the mail Saturday morning I realized that I haven't received any post cards from any trucking companies in a few months.
I used to get at least 4 a week from different companies( I think we all know who..lol).
Have companies just completely stopped hiring???
One of my friends told me he was talking to a Werner driver at a truck stop, He told him a lot of drivers are being laid off or forced to team and like Schneider they have put a stop to training students...
Can any one confirm this??? I don't really have no personal interest other then to feel bad for their drivers and to see where the Industry is heading!

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
It must be bad!

Maybe they realized that O/O's are the wave of the future....CHANGE......

I have noticed in the classifieds during the week, none of the big companies are advertising anymore. I only see them in the sunday paper now.
wahwah70 Thanks this. -
There were all sorts of rumors going around about my hubbys company BMT and last week in the newsletter the owner addressed them. As of the publish date there are no plans to layoff anyone and so far for 09 the number of vehicles to deliver is the same. The first couple of weeks are always solw in Jan. but as far as Iknow they are still doing training/orientation in Greer.

The hiring freezes are long overdue. My miles have been dropping for months, and it was very frustrating to watch students being hired when there isn't enough work to go around already.
I have sympathy for the working folk being laid off (I've been there), but coming into trucking isn't going to help anybody. You're better off on unemployment compensation.Wen782 Thanks this. -
think its bad now just wait, the first half of 09 is going to make all of 08 look fantastic.

The companies that I know of personally are barely keeping their doors open, not hiring and laying off.
The big guys like Schneider are looking for o/ops and experienced drivers. Last I was told, is that the Schneider school is closed at least until next year. No date to open back up has been set to the best of my knowledge.
I see a push at Schneider for more o/ops over company guys. I don't know what the company drivers at Schneider are doing in regards to numbers, but us o/ops are running 99-100% on time with few if any issues. And we don't cost near the money as a company driver. I would look for more opportunities on the o/op side with these mega carriers in the very near future.
And fewer opportunities for newbies across the board. And I wouldn't worry about the Mexicans either.

They don't worry either, they're set, courtesy of the libs in SAC......

Got my license here in toronto, canada with Humber College, at the end of November they had a career fair with sceinder national, at that time they told us that they were not hiring right now, apply after January. They said usually they close for xmas for 2 weeks, this year they were closing for roughly 4 weeks. At that time they would evaluate if they were going to need new drivers. They said with the rapid changes in the economy they could not perdict if they needed new drivers.
A job fair without any jobs. -
Now hold on there one second... the last time I heard the word change we got obama...
Lilbit and Texas-Nana Thank this.
