on an interstate here, a car (couldn't see the driver) came to a full stop, around the curve in the exit. there are cars going well above highway speeds (do the car drivers ever stay at the speed limits, and follow exit ramp speed limits?) and cars jacked up on thier brakes.
why did that car driver stop, around the curve of an highway exit ramp?
to allow a mama, papa, and baby geese to cross.
i like animals like all others do, but the facts are, humans can be killed due to the stupidity of those that "give them a brake"
yes, paying attention like perhaps these truckers should have been doing, but i see it as the front driver may have actually been at fault, as he must have NOT been paying attention, to see that idiot in the median, let alone cross in front. (i think) he could have slowed down, and if he was able to move over.. then of course, the drivers behind him, were as mentioned by another poster, were most likely not following at a safe distance.
i hate to say it, but maybe not so much the crash investigators, but the safety depts of the companies involved may ream those drivers royally up to the point of perhaps job displacement.
we are taught NOT to swerve for anything. slamming on the brakes is usually a result of not paying attention, or looking far enough ahead.
we as truckers have one advantage over the 4 wheelers, we sit high and can see further, allowing us to make adjustments.
then there is this, which i am not sure i understand..
"According to Erie News Now, three trucks were driving in the right lane of I-90 when a woman chased a dog out of the median and into the left lane of the interstate."
ok, they were in the right lane, she was in the median...and went into the left lane..
i got that, and i see that was only a 2 lane road? WITH a shoulder?
if so, trucks in right lane, she was in left lane, clearly (to me) the shoulder is on the right of the trucks.
so why didn't the first truck slide over to the shoulder, instead of slamming on his brakes?
by the supplied pics, there is a pretty wide shoulder to have moved over to.
any way, what's done is done, i hope they catch her, hold her responsible.

I actually do maintain the full safe following distance [as best I can] at all times and in all circumstances. "Circumstances" is pretty much whatever goes on on Southeast Michigan roads during the evening. I fairly regularly see situations which where, if I were running with the sort of following distance which just about everyone else sticks with, would easily turn into emergency braking or a wreck (instead I get to take my time braking and can usually consider downshifting).buddyd157, Raezzor and lovesthedrive Thank this.

"dog" people. its like a mental disease.
KillingTime, hagarcobra, tnpete and 4 others Thank this. -
but if a truck driver had run out into the road chasing a tire, and 3 cars piled up killing a dog,it'd be the truck drivers fault and not even a mere mention of the cars following to closely.....

I try to as well but find myself forgetting often enough. Now, I mostly drive in the city anymore but it's still not an excuse.

Geez, can’t people maintain control of their pets anymore??
I mean I’ll do what I can to avoid hitting a dog within reason (getting on the Jake and slowing down) but if that dog is in my lane on an interstate highway, Fido may be going to that doghouse in the sky, because I’m not swerving out of my lane to avoid it.kemosabi49 and buddyd157 Thank this. -
In 1986 I almost killed a Staton wagon load of kids. This crazy lady driving them. Jumped in front of me, rush hour traffic. I got stopped with 3ft between us. She then jumped out and tried to run. The kids lived she did not. Guy hit her had no chance to stop.
Never did figure out why she did that. But for Kids I will kill myself to save them. But a grown person or a dog or cat. Man its going to rough getting over. But I'm watching out for me first those third.allniter Thanks this. -
Three tractor trailers were traveling in the right lane of the interstate when a woman was reportedly chasing her dog across the media and onto the eastbound lanes of the road, according to troopers.
The first semi hit the breaks to avoid hitting the woman and dog, which then caused all three semis to hit one another, State Police said
or
Three semis were travelling in the right lane when the 1st semi slowed unexpectedly. The other two semis, following too closely due to a strange faith in something inexplicable proceeded to crash into the the sudden obstacle ahead of them.magoo68 Thanks this. -
