Of course the area you run in has much to do with your dealings with them but I go around them any chance I get. Regardless of how well you maintain your equipment they'll find something if they want. Also, the time wasted is unacceptable to me. I've spent entirely too much time dealing with some very unknowledgeable DOT over the years. My most recent one was over my ABS. Or should I say lack of said ABS. My truck doesn't have it. I had to get his supervisor and pull the information up on my phone to get him to back off. It's a #### shame what these parasites will do to you if you let them.
I have some mess on my CSA about an "excessive weight" ticket that I never even got. I was pulled over in upstate NY for not having a NYHUT while pulling some of the lightest freight I've ever hauled. I was hauling military HHGs so I was exempt from the tax and sticker requirement. He wrote me a ticket anyway even after showing him the regs from NY's website. I fought the ticket and the County dismissed it. When I saw it on my CSA as an overweight I started the process with DOT Data Q to have it removed. Even after I sent them copies of the ticket information, case number and letter from NY about dropping the ticket they STILL refuse to correct nor remove it.
DOT are the biggest thugs on the interstates. There's been times when they've let me go on things and I recently got a windshield sticker for passing a level I but that doesn't make up for all the times they've screwed me over the last 20 years!Last edited: Feb 15, 2018

I love it when these morons see the flashing lights and head for the shoulder smoking the brakes. It's losers like this that helped create the E-Log system/HOS we currently have. Congrats!!

I just had a level one in upstate NY last week. Truck and trailer. He checked everything, elogs, popped the hood, brakes, even the tractor reverse light. NO VIOLATIONS. GOOD JOB DRIVER. That's what safety said to me when I called it in. Yeah it felt good.
