My hubby has applied for a local job with a small company. The folks who run the business are like family. So hopefully it will work out.

Thanks for the suggestions and perspective, everyone. They are supposed to service his truck this week so we'll see how it goes. He has been talking to as many Averitt drives as he can and everyone says they same sorts of things...they are an LTL company, don't let your dispatcher drive your truck, be respectful but stand up for yourself...a lot of what has been said here.

A little side note here..I respect the hell out of all of you drivers out there. I've been on the road with my hubby, I see how it goes. It's a tough, unappreciated lifestyle and I'm thankful that there are folks out there willing to do it.

everything the lady says is true about averitt....my son drove tl for them for a little over a year and her comments sound the same as what he told me about averitt....a 2000 mile week was rare and they paid hhg rather than practical miles which was about 5 to 7% less miles than he actually drove ....he was issued a 4 year old freightliner and about 6 months later a 2 year old Volvo and both of the trucks were filthy, the 1st one even had the old nasty mattress still in it...and neither of the trucks was checked out by the shop before being issued....but the biggest problem with averitt is the low weekly mileage and paying hhg mileage instead of practical

HHG miles are the standard unfortunately. I don't like them as well, but it comes with driving OTR, Truckload, Longhaul. whatever you want to call it. If someone had an issue with low miles they need to communicate with dispatch... now I do know that is sometimes like talking to the bathroom wall, but there is a chain of command (so-to-speak) for a reason. You go up the chain until you get a satisfactory answer...

As for the trucks... Mechanics (if there is one where the truck is sitting) checks for mechanical issues, not living problems (unless of course it's obvious) pretty much if they have the time. So a dirty truck is thanks to the last person who drove it and didn't have care about leaving it that way. Some Service centers I have been to, if they are slow during the day, they pay the dock workers to do a basic clean up of the truck. (AGAIN, if they have time) But if it has any issues when a driver first gets in it, it's up the THE DRIVER to report it... That's what a the writeup is for. Documenting all the discrepancies that are found when you first get your truck.

But I will say this, other than cleanliness, if a driver has a request (I.E. new mattress, APU fixed/replaced, or other general comfort problem) they are resolved pretty quickly if the driver has the time to wait for them to fix it. If it's on order, then well... wait for it... But like any trucking company I know of, they employ hotel services to clean the bathrooms, floors etc... not make the bed and wash the truck.

So I hope your son found a position that makes him happy whether that is with Averitt or not, and this is not to bash or disrespect you in anyway... Just the honest truth that I have seen since being with the company. But I do consider myself luckier than some in that I have a great team of people that I run for, be it Russell Stover, Honda, or just plain truckload... Cooperation goes a long way when your willing to have it in the first place.

When I was truckload or dedicated, everytime I switched trucks I would either get a new mattress or transfer mine from the truck I was leaving. As for the cleanliness, that is up to the driver. I know my service center director will do spot checks of the trucks for cleanness.
