I've been thinking about getting into trucking for a couple years but I've been putting it off.
Some issues at home and I just want to get the heckity heck out of here and do over the road and pretty much not take any home time. So I'm not interested in CDL school but a trucking company that will train me.
No kids. No wife. No child support. No alimony. I'm just ready to go.
Which starter companies pay the best. Do any starter companies not do New York (not a deal breaker but I'm just curious...and would use this when weighing the pros and cons between companies).
I'm new here. If I posted in the wrong place I apologise.
From Chicago looking to get into OTR trucking asap

Chicago, you're in luck.
FFE (Frozen Food Express) right there in Chicago has their own cdl school at Prairie State College. It's free to you if you agree to work for FFE 12 months, which is a good deal. This is a coast to coast & border to border refrigerated trucking company.
FFE's headquarters is in Dallas,TX and they have a terminal in Chicago, and other cities.
Those refrigerated outfits love drivers that like to run the roads and don't want to be home much.Last edited: Feb 17, 2018
nazgul and VIDEODROME Thank this. -
I work for Veriha and they have their own school. I went there for a refresher.
Their home terminal is in Marinette, WI, but they do have a yard in Romeoville, IL that might work out for hometime or parking the truck.

Thanks for the information guys.
I forgot to add that cameras inside the truck pointed at me is an absolute deal breaker.
Anyway I can find out if they are forced dispatch? Not that forced would be a deal breaker.Dan47 Thanks this. -
Okay Veriha does use in cab cameras facing both the road and the driver.

Check out Millis & Roehl, both go to the east coast but they do have midwest regional. Not sure about cameras but you have to start somewhere.
-
I was going to say roehl also. Train in your backyard in Gary and get paid while you train. You can always get into a dedicated accout that would mean no NY. I am not sure about cameras though, last i knew some trucks had them some did not. I am fairly certain millis does have cams.Vic Firth Thanks this.

New York isn't a deal breaker. I just heard it was a pain in the pooper.
I here they have good bagels and pizza though.
I'm more interested in Over The Road so that I can move out of my apartment and get out of that situation, not have to pay rent, no utilities, no bills other then those of the stomach variety. Om nom nom noms.
Save up some money.
Like I said I don't have kids or anything.Last edited: Feb 17, 2018
VIDEODROME Thanks this. -
I can relate. I did that to GTFO of the Upper Peninsula's horrible job market.

Closest school and terminal to you for Millis is Richfield, WI (just North of Milwaukee) but they have driver facing cameras.
Vic Firth Thanks this.
