It's up the the program administrator at your company to report to the va on your progress. I'd They don't, then your fine, but if they do, be prepared to eventually pay that money back. I had to repay 3 months worth.

The problem with that program is that after the 12 or 24 month period, you lose all your GI Bill monies. Once you start the GI Bill, you have 10 years to completely use all the money allotted or risk losing it. With apprentice program, you lose the time (and stipend money) for the sake of the now. If you plan on doing something in the future with the GI Bill, you may not want to use that program.

Now I retired 5 years ago, so things may have changed, but considering the times, I doubt it.

I got out in 04, they didn't have chapter 33 then, but when I signed up to use my gi bill in 2013, they gave me the option to exchange over to 33 from 31, when I did it expanded my use out to 2019. So I've got the rest of this year and next year tool September to decide if I want to stay in the industry as a driver or goo back to school for a new skill like welding or heavy equipment

    There's caveat to it though
Forever GI Bill - Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act - Education and Training
    In particular this one
    "
    • The 15-year time limitation to use Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits is eliminated for Veterans who left active duty on or after January 1, 2013, children who became eligible for the Fry Scholarship on or after January 1, 2013, and all Fry scholarship eligible spouses.
