The radio is a 29 ltd. tuned up but hasnt been used in several years. I installed yesterday and calibrated. Worked fine transmitting and reveiving while truck wasnt moving. Once I start driving Its like I turned the rf gain all the way down and squelch up (even though I have touched neither one) It comes in and out but stays mostly out, could the rf gain control be broken? Whats best way to check?

Its more than likely your antennas.

Thats what I thought but the antenna has no visible break and works with other radios

Check the coax conector on back of the radio and the ones on the coax itself and see if they are loose.

I'm going to look at it again this evening, but I checked all connections yesterday. I swear I think the RF gain know is broke or loose on the inside, but I'm not brave enough take it apart and wouldn't know what to do when I got it apart.

The radio has talkback installed, it replaced the delta tune know, could that have anything to do with the receiving issue?

It’s possible the RF gain knob needs cleaning. It could be a cold solder joint, or possibly a electrolytic capacitor(s) going bad. The hardest thing on electronic devices is to store them for years without turning them on from time to time.

Powder Joints and Lime Hauler Thank this.

I have had a couple of vintage radios that I brought back to life and I did change out the rf gain / squelch / and vol - on/off pots to clear up the static crackling noises,

    Night Stalker10 Thanks this.
