These are the type of questions asked in this forum that frosts me. If your question was can I trust a recruiter to tell me the truth over half of the replies would be a resounding no. This is a bit of a difficult question to answer though. Because in most situations you are going to have several conversations with them over days and weeks. However BEFORE you go to orientation you need the basic things about what to bring to orientation and where to go. Get directions if you do not know the area. At some point you also need to make sure you are aware of things like health insurance and retirement plans. Get an idea of what the average driver actually makes not get hung up on pay per mile. What is the company's policy on riders and detention pay as well as breakdown pay. What type of equipment will you operate. Will it have an APU. What are the company traffic lanes and who is their customers.
What to ask recruiters?

Ask how often you will get home. Can you take the truck home. What is quality home time ? 34hrs Or 48hrs.How old is your equipment.Find this company on Facebook and see what drivers are sharing about this company.I once friended 3 driver on a companies Facebook page and was able to talk to them on the phone to get the real story about there company.

Do you have automatics? Do you have satellite TVs? What satellite tv packages do you include?

There is much more to a job than objective questions can answer. You will find that drivers very much value being treated as a person. Not a number. Being part of a family means a whole lot. Yes, the families will be dysfunctional, to a degree. That’s far better than a completely dysfunctional number.
Every work place has problems. Choose your problems wisely.
You should ask about team driving. There are a couple who do that, period. They won’t let you know unless you ask.Need4Speed Thanks this. -
Nothing is good.
Thier job is to rouse the rabble in the class room with glitz, beer, music dj, women and whip everyone into a patriotic fevor to hire onto their best mega right now today. Anything less in the resulting group-think would cause that one or two nay sayers to be removed from the school body and excluded.
//sarcasm.
All recruiters will take a question. Blunt it. Flip it and then make it the most positive statement evah since Genesis. HA.Need4Speed Thanks this. -
Make a list on word. I have about 60 questions that I ask every recruiter. I can post if you like. I interview them instead of being interviewed. I have a process for researching companies that takes a few days per company.
I go through the companies entire site, every page.
I then search you tube for vloggers and anything related to that company and watch them.
I then search FB for drivers of that company and reach out to them. I'll send them something like:
Hi Fred I'm looking into joining ABC Trucking. I'm reaching out to current drivers to get their opinions (Good/Bad) I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts if you have the time.
Then I come here and 1 other forum and research posts related to said company.
Then I'll fill out the full Application, call the recruiter and ask them if they have about 30 minutes because i am currently researching companies trying to decide which one I'd like to work with for the long haul.CK73, Need4Speed and easytopleez33 Thank this. -
OP,
You will get a much more accurate view of the company by doing online searches and talking to their drivers. If a company interests you, talk to the driver at a truck stop, ask him or her about the runs, hometime, equipment, pay, benefits, etc. A driver who likes where he works will be honest, but if he adds something about a referral bonus, take it with a grain of salt. Too much info online nowadays to go into any job in trucking blind, especially for a mega.Need4Speed, ABRO Transport and easytopleez33 Thank this. -
Best Advice!! Run across their drivers and talk to em.
I get asked all the time, Most drivers would be glad to steer you in the right direction.Need4Speed, shogun and ABRO Transport Thank this. -
"How much of what you are promising me will never really happen, because of the fine print in every example?"
Need4Speed Thanks this.
