driving negligence opinion

gotta eat and drink . . .

 

I almost had the same thing happen to me only it was a person driving a car that came out of Burger King and he hit my Pickup Truck.

He told the cops that his hot coffee spilled on his lap and lost it.

 

I have done both in my truck years ago, but if I spilled anything, I dealt with it when I got to a place where I could pull over and park.

 

Are you allowed to eat/drink at your desk? Do you eat/drink when you leave the McDonald's drive thru? A driver cannot just stop whenever he/she gets hungry or thirsty. There are no drive-thrus where a trucker can just whip off the highway and grab a bite. As long a s a driver is paying attention to what he's doing, I see no problem with it, whether it be in a car or a truck. Here's a question; how many truck wrecks are the result of the above scenario? If they deem it necessary to ban eating or drinking while driving a truck, then they #### sure better do the same for 4-wheelers since they are the BIGGEST cause of wrecks on America's highways.

 

When I was driving, I never drank coffee anyway..but would drink cold liquids out of a coffee mug with a secure lid.

As far as fast foods, I did chow down on nuggets and fries or basically anything that was easy to eat.

 

The stuff I munched was easy to eat things too. I'd never chow a burger or something like that while driving. It was more of a snack thing to hold me until I could stop and eat.

I also tried not to drink too much to eliminate the need for frequent stops!

 

do you realize how far an object can go, at over 50mph, for over 15 seconds? alot farther than you could unofficially estimate, out of sight i would say.

 

It sounds like someone who could not walk and chew gum.

I eat and drink while I go down the road, but I generally do not take my eyes off the road to do so. I have also spilled drinks occasionally—again, I don't take my eyes off the road. Fumbling with a spilled drink is not going to make it any less spilled.

I sometimes talk on the phone while I drive—maintaining my lane—yet I've seen other drivers do the same and wander all over the road like a drunk. Some people are just incapable of multi-tasking.

Now for the bottom line: He slammed into the rear of stopped vehicles... GUILTY as charged. There is NO excuse good enough.

 

i keep a towel/rags between my driver seat and the door for those occasions. being in that same saet everyday i can reach down, grab the towel, and throw it over the spill without looking away from the road. much like a normal person can walk around their own house in the dark without bumping into anything (unless of course the dog decides to sleep in the middle of the hall!!)
