the pressure at the injectors is regulated by the fuel pump which sends the excess fuel back to the tank via the return line

I have bought a 165gph FASS system before I read this forum. I bought it for my freshly overhauled 550 C15. before I installed it, I had a much faster throttle response. I did not purchase the system to gain mileage or power. Only to run clean pure diesel through my injectors and to gain engine life. But it did seem to get kind of sluggish once I installed it. I installed it per the instructions and with the help of a FASS distributor tech.
I'd like to throw this picture online to see if anyone has anything to say about the install. I didn't remove the primary or secondary filter. I was able to cram the bugger just before the frame mounted filter. I do not have a pressure gauge installed, only the in/hg stock gauge.
Does anyone have advice or something to check for that could be causing the sluggish pull? It runs smooth, starts amazing with the thing, I can hear the motor run very quietly, and can see fuel being returned back into the tanks as expected during idle.
I was told that 165gph motor is plenty for a 550hp. I just have a feeling that I was possibly told wrong. any tips would be greatly appreciated. I don't care to bicker over which system is better or not. I read plenty of that on this blog.
thanks again...Attached Files:

Do you suppose it could just be new engine break-in as to the reason why it feels sluggish?
-
It wasn't sluggish before I installed it. I put about it 3k miles on it before I installed the fass. I'm going to change my fuel filters again to ensure those aren't clogged. Then I'll bypass the dash and see what it does. -
Take the stock filter off and do away with it. With the filters on the fast and leaving the stock filter on your creating to much restriction. That will make it sluggish.
-
That's what I was thinking. I asked the fass tech and he said it should be okay as long as the filter is clean. But I'll try bypassing it as well to see what it does. My fuel filter Gauge reads zero. Which I know that sensor is right after the original filter.Oxbow Thanks this. -
With the fass running your vacum gauge will read zero. That gauge is useless with the fass.Oxbow Thanks this.

The truck still has power though. Just doesn't have the pop like it did. I'm wondering if I'm just getting used to the feel of the engine now...
Oh yeah forgot it's a vacuum, not pressure. My gauge was reading 10 the morning I installed the system but I thought it was from icing. I'm gonna try the easiest solution and replace the filter first. If that doesn't work then I'll bypass it all together.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Be careful with the vac-gauge still hooked up. Now that you have positive pressure on those lines the gauge may fail and let fuel spray under dash !! That's a mess you can never clean up !!
