Hey guys, so after me being away for 4 days I start the truck this morning and there is an engine light. Mechanic had a look at it and said it's a aftermarket nox sensor. He tried resetting the engine light and it would not go.
Question is... WHERE IS THIS POS SENSOR????? dealer wants $1400.00
Mechanic wants $1000.00
I want to know where it is!
Mechanic said drive it and see if it might go since it was never there before. Had no luck.

Nox sensor is in the exhaust, you may have 2 of them, one after the turbo but before the DOC and another after the SCR catalyst. Last one I replaced for a cummins was around $600 just for the part, plus they tend to pull the threads out if they've been in there a while (even with plenty of heat and lube) which can make things interesting... sometimes requiring the port that they thread into needing retapped or reworked/replaced.

Thanks for the bad news bro appreciate it.

Hey there. Extremely new to all this so I know this is going to make me look clueless. Nonetheless, what did you mean by “threads” in your reply to the initial poster? You said they “pull the threads out”. What are the threads? Thanks!

Like on a nut and bolt. Picture unscrewing a bolt and the threads from the nut sticking to the bolt and pulling outBandBSowards28 Thanks this.

See that’s what I mean thought it meant but wasn’t sure so wanted to clarify in case in the trucking world “threads” lingo meant something else on these Diesel engines.
