How’s it hanging...
I’m working as a Frac Op in south Texas 2nd time in 4-5 year span...seems oilfield is an up and down business. Anyways, I have a CDL with an X endorsement.
I recently purchased a ‘17 RAM 3500 24xxx miles so I got a warranty etc etc.
I’m going to get it into the hotshot business, and I’m asking (BEGGING) for advice.
What tools, trailer, permits ,equip am I required to put on it? I’m not going to drive it anytime in the near future (not for 4-6 months). I’m planning on going 50/50 with a dependable & trustworthy driver. Is there the possibility of leasing the truck to a company that’ll provide the trailer and just drop my rate? Experiences with hotshot business before? I’ve been OTR ( company driver,.40 cpm) with a 53’ for 2 yrs as well, so I’m sort of familiar with the Transportation business...Spoken to lease and O/os for hot shots OTR and regional, and they say they make good money. Real Good money. Please reply and provide insights folks. I appreciate it

To be successful any business person should no there numbers before buying any equipment. That way they no the risk of going into said business.Sound like your already buying equipment before you have your numbers.Any body can do hotshot. And if anybody can do it then it pays cheap. In trucking you have to find a niche that is difficult and no one else can do to make more money than a company driver.Car haul,Oversized, jet engines, trade shows.OOIDA had free online training courses,Spread sheets and profit and loss forms so you can no your numbers. And they will tell you what permits you will need.Landstar also has a load board with hot shot loads on it.You can see there rated.

What I’m getting at is... my truck has a note $730 a month. It sits at the yard for 5 wks at a time. If I go the short way and pay my own insurance and lease my truck to a hot shot company, Id just have to pay the driver a percentage of the trucks income and I can pay the truck and insurance note. In yalls experience, is it possible? I’m not going to have this one rig sustain and provide for me as my main source of income. I wanted to get all this hotshot gig set up so I would be prepared when oil takes a dip AGAIN. What do y’all think
