In 1999 i upgraded my cdl in oregon to a class A,after taking a course with a local driving school i was all set to go see the world thru the eyes of a long haul trucker'boy was i in for a rude surprise, right out of school i found i could not find a job due to the school not being acredited, tho i did get my class a,i banged around doing some local stuff for almost a year untill May trucking down in utah took me on as a student,in november of 2000,i went thru the hoops and hollers of there company and in a week went out on the road with a trainer,we ran 11 western states, with May i almost gave up truck driving before i got started,my trainer was an moron,i found out he had only driven local runs, and had never went interstate,we had a brand new truck, and i could not fault them with bad support as far as the rigs went,my trainer spent all his time in the sleeper and when he was in the right seat he harrassed every body on the cb radio,we fought like we were married and it got ugly, one night we were returning from washington state and running I 84 back to layton,i was driving of course and he was asleep and i was at 16 hours dog tired, unhappy, there is a split iam sure all of you know where i- 84 cuts off to I-15 or keeps north into idaho,i ran past the cut off,it was about 2:45 am,dark cold,so i backed up and cut across where i thought was hard packed dirt but i high centered my truck,i sunk down on one side and was stuck fast,my trainer was fast asleep and i was unable to wake him,so there i sat, sunday morning,no response from the weekend dispatcher,we had no cell phones then,i was hearing the jeers and names from the other trucks that passed, via horns and cb chatter ,iwas packing my bags to walk away when a flat bedder called me hearing the talk on the radio,i told him where iwas and what i had done,a while later he pulled up,got out and looked at my rig,by this time my trainer was up all pissy at me,yelling and cussing, this great flat bedder pulled me out and broke his chain doing it,and refused my offer to replace his chain,HUMPPTY DUMMTY' if your reading this or some one knows this guy'ive owed this guy a cup of coffee a very long time'
i quit may in utah they didnt listen to my complaint, nor did i ever get my pay from them,i heard two or three storys of as to the whys of it but neverless i put a lot of miles in and did it for free,i understand the trainer went on to work for them but was fired down the road for unrelated issues, turns out he was on meds for depression and had some real mental issues, he is in prison now in utah for drug and other charges,i know this as i stopped by and saw him on my return to texas this year,i cant say may was all bad,but as a first timer it left a bad taste in my mouth but then ive worked for a few other outfits, large and small and ive come to hate truck companys for most part,i think they all lie,and tell drivers what they want to hear but then later screw them over, the only good thing is 10 years later i still have a clean dak,but ive yet to find a good job and am thinking of giving up my cdl

Hey Brother EMMITJACKSON,
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with May. After 10 yrs you still have a clean DAC, that's a good thing. Too bad you haven't found a good job though. I try and make the best out of all situations, ( darn hard sometimes) had a dispatcher that tried to get my goat all the time, making life miserable. I took that power away from him one day and started laughing at him when he would try to upset me. Long story short, we make our own way in life. If we give other people the power to run our life, we loose. Hope things work out for you Brother,

Driving 10 years and yet to find a good job? Hate to say it, but sounds to me like its more a "you" issue than it is a company issue. Passed your exit and backed up? I hope you didnt do so on the interstate. Cut across? The median of the interstate? I hope not. There is always a exit further ahead to get off on and turn around.
pawpaw, leannamarie, Lurchgs and 1 other person Thank this. -
perhaps it is my issue' also' i should have said at this point ive not found a home,i had three i really liked but one i quit to move down here to texas, the other was when i went back to oregon for a year but that one folded up due to the owners divorce and the other was with a two truck company but the owner died, ive been working for belly dump companys down here since and at 22% of a load and the cheating that gos on and the crummy rigs, you know bald tires, recaps on the frount, lights and gauges not working, wore out engines, slip seating junkers i get my dander up with these companys, its my dak at risk and i wont put up with nonsense,so i decided not to run like this any more but now jobs have dried up and now a month later ive no calls,so maybe iam anal but i take pride in my clean license, and wont risk it for any boss, they dont care about me,so its up to us to protect our selves

sounds like you have no recent otr experince no one will touch without a refresher course.
I do not know how you were not paid at may unless you did not turn in your logs which that would be your fault.
They use comdata cards and they issue your pay on that. -
the trainer got my money,he said they paid him by mistake and would never make it right to me,and of course he took it and used it,thats why his ### is sitting in prison in utah for bilking other people along with other charges,i visited him last july when i drove thru utah,i dont hate the guy,he just had some major drug issues and it bite him in the ### in the end,8 years worth of it,to bad,he lost his wife kids and home, plus his cdl rights,

You live in Texas and can't find a good driving job? C'mon I live in a dead end state and I have never had a problem finding driving work. It should be a cakewalk for you if your bridges aren't burned.
Heck you can even sign on with companies that send you to different outfits to fill in until you find one you like. They have O/O in my area that will hire you by the trip or on a casual basis to cover loads they booked.
having a CDL in good standing is all you should need to get a good job driving. But most likely the real good jobs are not going to be found out of the classifieds or Internet. You have to beat the pavement for those. And believe me learning how to prepare to find the good jobs can be quite lucrative. -
It's a DAC

While I feel for you, the fact that he was taking ant-depressants doesn't mean hes not qualified to drive. Google DOT medical eval and you'll be surprised that there are two kinds of med you can not take while having your class a. Hope you can find work.
