No authority needed intrastate FL just dot# and $300,000 ins. Some guys run into GA every now and then, but still run under single state plate. Not sure about TX.
As 89Pete stated here its paid mileage rates from $3.00-$3.25 with a min. haul agreement of 40-50 mi.

Easy Pete! Thats the kind of talk that caused the Great Depresion. Yes logging has SLOWED down in N-FL/S-GA but it has NOT shut-down. 62% of the nations paper supply comes from N-FL/S-GA. While I was out today I saw over 100 log trucks and at least 15 chip trucks. Every year mills close for major maintenance. And yes some have shut down due to economic slow downs. Smurfit-stone has closed several plants in order to force the Union to take pay cuts. Gee theres a surprise. Get the little guy to work longer/harder for less and pay management more for insuring greater profits created by the labor cuts. Sounds just like Ford/GM/Chrysler. How many full time employees could Ford pay with last years CEO bonus of $24 Million?

The mills here will open back up in mid Jan. They simply CAN NOT close. Its simple supply and demand. Yes they currently have a surplus due to less puchasing of goods by the public. However, when that overstock runs out they have to re-start. Nearly every consumer product is tied to paper. The cases that everything is packed into for shipping, the box of cereal, the carton of cigarettes, the label on the soup, paper towels, tissue paper, toilet paper, mail, checks, log books, school books, magazines,..................... Take a moment and you can all add another ten items that are paper dependent. Some logging outfits are shut down for a few weeks, some are running a few days a week and some are still running strong. The biggest problem we have as a country is the same thing that cause the Great depression, FEAR. When the greed of Wall street drove the price of fuel through the roof fear began to create an economic domino effect. High fuel cost lead to less spending in other areas. Which lead to less need for product, which meant less need for goods and labor, which lead to less people with money to spend which lead to more fear and more cut backs in spending. Obama and congress's biggest challenge to recover from these economic times is to create confidence in the consumer. Instead of laying people off they need to cut back on management pay and managements excesive spending.
