After 2 hours, my company will pay drivers $35/hour for each hour over 2 that the driver is here - if it's our fault. :) Fair is fair. If those wheels aren't rolling on a road somewhere, that driver is losing a lot of cash.

The most I've ever seen someone here is 3 hours, though, and that was because we had to hand-unload some long boards of plastic scuff liner. :)

I was at a shipper in Ontario a few weeks ago, and noticed they would take pics after it was loaded, seemed odd to me

Being from Ok. myself, I would just love to take exception to that statement. Durn it- but I can't. For some reason, our legislatures and commissioners don't believe that maintenance is neccassary. Most all the money given to ODOT is for construction. I tell you that as a former ODOTer who got fed up after 24 yrs with them. So now I drive a truck. Go figure.

the camera thing is a great idea, if you dont have anything but a "throw-away" one. it does protect you, the driver. and if the customer files a claims for whatever, you have pics as proof of what the load looked like. also, if there are damages, pics should be taken of the damaged freight for claims purposes. this could save your company money and you grief.

Been on it many a time. Worked for ODOT for 24 years in their communications branch. Used to do all of our radio tower work so been on most of our highways. That road is almost as bad as some of the ridges I ran getting to our tower sites.

Sometimes its rough driving that screws a load up, and more times its the shipper. To save costs on packaging I have seen several instances of shippers ordering lower "crush-rate" boxes after they had been awarded a contract. Then when the products arrive at their destination,if there is a problem it ends up charged to the trucking company.Just one trick of many for big business.
