Yes you will need to register it as a commercial vehicle fully comply with all the same regulations as any other trucking company except for operating authority. Just because your business isn't trucking per se, you are using a commercial vehicle to support that business making you a private fleet. This is a common misconception that because you are not hauling for-hire that you are exempt from regulations.

Depending on the state you are based out of for intrastate work they may have specific regulations that are different then the federal regulations but most states simply follow the federal rules. Most states require even intrastate only operations to obtain an US DOT number. All states will require vehicles with gross weight ratings greater than 26,001 pounds to have a cdl driver, and cdl drivers are required to be enrolled in a drug testing consortium. so the answer to if you need a cdl will depend on the gross vehicle weight rating of the specific vehicle you purchase.

If your combination GVWR exceeds 10,000# with the pickup and trailer, then you fall under the Federal Regulations for commercial vehicles with that combination

1. Am I required to register it as a commercial vehicle, or can I title/register it as an RV under my business?
2. If I register it as an RV under the business, am I exempt from needing a DOT number?
3. If I register it as a commercial truck under the business but don't use it for hire (only for my own business transport needs), do I need a DOT #?

If you transport property, private or for hire, you cannot register as an RV.
You are in the trucking business as a private carrier, you need DOT#, all registrations, CDL, etc. All Federal trucking rules apply.
