Check your local fire department for hose. The volunteer outfits usually have quite a bit. Give 'em a few bucks for it, they'll really appreciate it.
We cut it into one foot lengths and then cut down one side along the edge.
They make great edge protectors. They're tough enough to use with chains and limber enough to put under straps. We stow them in a five gallon bucket in the trailer gear box.

Fire hose is pretty tough. It beats what I did, which was using pieces of carpet.

Pieces of fire hose works great. I have pieces that I have a used for close to 10 years and they're still in good shape

I used old flaps "for tube type tires mounted on split rims". Cut them about 12 inches long. Can't wear them out, I have some that are 35 years old.

If you can get it do it. I used old carpet remnants and anything else I could scrounge up. Use whatever works best that protects the customers product and your straps.

Its also great to wrap pto lines with, protects rubbing. Now a warning! As a past Fireman Do not ever handle used fire hose without gloves. There can be small pieces of glass embedded in it from dragging it around accident scenes. Does not end well.

Around here, I see fire hose on Craigslist at least weekly if not more often. Check there too.

I went to a store that specializes in hoses. Bought enough to add protection on my pipe stakes and have extra to cut into edge protectors.

Most FD will give you the stuff, they test them every year. If they dont pass, or gets damaged its OOS. No use to them. Juat go ask them.
