Well I had my interview at YRC this morning. TM hired me on the spot and wanted me to start Monday, (he was unaware I had yet to take a drug test and get my background cleared etc.) 26 door barn, 12 drivers, assigned truck, 18.51 an hour to start, free bennies for the family, overtime after 8 and 40. It's a combo position so dock working plus p&d. He assured me I'd get sufficient windshield time but I expect to work the dock regularly which is fine if corporate signs off in everything. Much more laid back atmosphere than FedEx. Hours I'm sure would be all over the place being the new guy, but I expect that. If I don't get a call from corporate this afternoon or tomorrow with a date to do my drug test etc, I'll just go pick up my truck from the o/o and run for him until they call.

Yes my old Werner trainer got on with Walmart and he's told me everything. It's crazy what these companies will do to shaft drivers man. Wally is everywhere and they'd rather undercut the private fleet to save a few pennies. Makes you feel like many years of dedication and loyalty get you nothing in the end.

One need only look in our very own Walmart section to corroborate pretty much every word you said.

Dock pay is the same hourly as when you're driving?

saia scares me too. I have been @ Fedex Ground for 2 years. Ground is a bunch of companies inside that Fedex fence. I found a good contractor which is key. I run 2 p&d and a line haul turn. I make 1600 week every week never changes. Insurance is high but I gotta have it for the wife and kids. I can go home daily since I live an hour from the hub but I have a sleeper when I don’t want to go. Wife’s in school to be a nurse 2 years to go and bye bye to the truck for me.

Saia just called. System driver out of Evansville. The hotel sounds nice but the no Bluetooth drinking and camera scare me. I have a camera but I have not heard one word.. and it’s a laid back contractor which I don’t hear from for months on end.

Go to saia and stay gone 5 days a week for that hotel and cheap insurance or stay where I’m @ laid back and go home during week when I feel like it???

SAIA isn't worth it dude. I'm sure your truck is really fast too. You won't miss a step going to Estes Express or ODFL!

He didn't let on there was a different pay scale if you worked the dock, so I'm not sure.

Sounds like you've got it made where at first the most part, as well as having a plan once you're wife becomes a nurse. I say stay put and ride it out.

Not fast anymore. When I ran cali it was open. Fedex made them cut back to 65mph. But i also start my day takes 3 hours to run my 2 p&d both drop hook pups. Then I sit 3 waiting for sort. Then 2.75 down to nash sit for 2.5 waiting on my cut. then 2.75 back. Main reason I stayed this long is I’m not working hard. I’m sitting as much as I work. Just insurance is retarded expensive.

I don’t think odfl or Estes is hiring this area and it’s a hell of a daily commute

I didn't know ups did OTR.
It must be OTR linehaul or something.
They can't possibly be running random freight
From anywhere to anywhere like a normal OTR outfit.
