Western Star 5700 or Volvo 860 for a couple? Comfort

Western Star has lots of water leak issues and side windows frost up in the winter.
Volvo’s around here in Western Canada are not standing up to the rough roads. Radiators giving out, egr coolers between two and three year point.

 

Honestly, buy a used condo truck. Those ari sleepers are perfect for a couple. If I was on the road with my wife, a bathroom would be an absolute must because I'm not stopping every twenty minutes for her to pee!

I would only suggest the volvo if you've got a considerable piggybank to handle the cost of repairs and down time.

 

Western Star Claims they have solved all those issues for 2018, looking at a 5700XE myself, $47 000 dollars less, than a apples to apples VNL 880.......

 

Yeah, could have just been new model growing pains.

 

I'm in love with the 5700, but I want to find more reviews for O/O's and L/O's before I really decide to commit myself. Very impressed so far in my research

 

Western star will cost you alot less in maintenance and down time.
Ive driven freightliner,pete, Kenworth, and volvo.
Dont notice much difference in comfort..only features.

 

I really like the 5700 but hate that you can only get it with a Detroit, I’m not a fan of any of them turds coming out of the Detroit factory for about the last decade.. if you could get a red motor in em or even a glider kit The 5700 would be in the top 3 for next set of wheels.. now for your question, Volvo 860 all day long, Volvo makes a much better motor than Detroit and has the BEST auto shift on the road..

 

I got the stuff for the 2019 and if I reflect correctly you can it with a Cummins now too
