I wouldn't own a truck unless I was making at least that amount. That's still down 75% from crude rates back in 2012.
-
Having never owned a truck, I’m not familiar with all the costs involved in running ones own.
But I figure if you buy a $40k Freightliner every few years, even at $200k annual revenue, you’re still banking way more than most any company driver. -
Out of that number comes fuel, maintenance, insurance, base paltes, tires, truck washes, and any other truck expenses. In addition you will be fully responsible for self employment tax, and Federal Income tax withholding.
Most of those folks probably net about 75k a year to themselves. And have to buy their own truck.Hulld, rabbiporkchop, HalpinUout and 2 others Thank this. -
Thank you, that’s the kind of info I’ve been looking for, I expected as much.
Good money is subjective, but to me, even $75k seems worth the extra responsibility. If you’re the independent sort anyway. As they say in showbiz, it beats a real job!

That Freightliner will cost you 20 - 25K of maintenance a year, fuel 40 - 50K (depends what mileage is run to get there), about 5 k for plates, registration, fees of different kinds, truck payments ...15K a year (assuming it is not paid for) add whatever % you're leased on to a carrier for....well out of that 200K you get to keep 75k - 85K from my prior experience.rabbiporkchop and LateNightCable Thank this.

5 grand for plates? Are you smoking crack?whoopNride Thanks this.

2000 - 2500K for plates, 550 HVUT, 1500 - 2000 Insurance for bobtail ---I said plates and fees.
Edit. not to make false statements ... plates were about 2K a year. $2500 is to much.Last edited: Mar 12, 2018
double yellow Thanks this. -
Might be leased-on.
Plates cost me $1,200 with my own MC
