Im just amazed that he would look here for guidance on how/where to spend $200MM. That is all.
Oh, and I rarely spend time in truck stops, so I guess Im not the target audience.
Carry on...Steel Dragon Thanks this. -
Problem there is the NIMBY crowd would never allow it. Heck, a little town outside Flint of 5,500 people blocked Loves attempt to put in a truck stop. If that small of a town will block a new truck stop, how in the world do you thing one on the outskirts of cities will get approved?
And to get far enough awau where NIMBY crowd would not matter, you will be 100 miles away, so not close enough to actual be useful.LineHaulLodge and nax Thank this. -
You are aware that automated trucks are on the road as we speak and that their eventual widespread implementation will decimate the truck stop industry?
LineHaulLodge, nax and Studebaker Hawk Thank this. -
I’d gladly pay a membership to use a place like this out in the west.

As a race hauler driver, I’d be more than thrilled to stay at your facility as described in the first original post. My company pays for hotels every night on the road and we all know the cost and hassle that is. So I wouldn’t hesitate to pay a premium for a good, safe and clean parking spot alongside other real professional drivers and not worry about my hauler getting bumped into or bumper taken off. I try not to park overnight in truck stops and tight rest areas in fear of some rookie steering wheel holder crashing into my race hauler.
I wish you luck and really hope to stay at your facilities someday if it becomes a reality.LineHaulLodge Thanks this. -
I think there is a certain segment (maybe 15%) of both company and owner-ops who appreciate being premium comfortable at a premium cost, at least some nights.
It would be like many "campers" seek out the more private and exclusive RV parks. They pay twice as much but get a lot in return. Many of these are "members only"
I'd drive a mile or two [off the main road] down a paved road, to a location. But as a company driver always driving to an appointment, the location would have to fit in with my schedule. In some situations I have a great deal of flexibility (time), others, not so much.
My company reimburses reserved and paid parking as long as it's not abused.
APU's and reefers are just going to have to be expected, especially in very cold or hot climates. There's lots of places around the US where mild climate days comprise most days of the year. I personally have no problem staying near Williams, AZ or Hesperia, CA if the benefits are there.LineHaulLodge Thanks this. -
Already been considered and my engineers are developing an electrical plan that's in sync with what Tesla is doing with UPS, PepsiCo and Frito-Lay. Thanks for raising the point because you're right. The "shore-power" distribution system is scheduled to be designed for charging stations with ample capacity to fuel the autonomous trucks. And yes, there will be load storage. Buying enough land to create a transit station, etc. But for the next 10-15 years before totally autonomous trucks become a reality, my focus is to provide a level of service and amenities that help the best of the best truckers enjoy the lifestyle career they've chosen.

I get it and you're invited..... YOU are exactly the type of high quality customer I'd love to see join us. I'm quite impressed with the quality of the majority of the comments from this forum. Very encouraging and I wish the best for you as well! Stay tuned speed racer!

Nax........ clearly you're part of the 80%. Glass is always half empty. Your "confidence" in my ability was never a question. I solicited input about driver experiences on the road because direct experience is important to me and I floated ideas to stir discussion. I've captured several interesting nuggets through the process - none of which you have offered. In the end, I know I'll do my BEST to serve the industry and it's drivers well because that's my approach to life and I'm quite confident it will serve me well. You...... well...... you seem to have all the answers.91B20H8, Bean Jr., HighCountry and 3 others Thank this.
