I agree but no truck driver should retire or die and not be able to say they ate/drank there at least once. It's a long standing part of Texas and America Route 66 history that may not be around forever
But it still draws lots of tourists passing through so hopefully it will hang around well into the future barring a major fire or tornado event. So stop in and have a decent steak and good local brew while it's still going in case something happens. Then you can decide if you want to return or not.
It's already dodged one bullet

Jay brothers at exit 248 on I80 in Nebraska has a very good Indian restaurant and cheap fuel, but the parking lot is pretty rough.

BEST:
One of my favorites is the Gas Grill Family Greek restaurant in Knightstown, Indiana
on I-70 at exit 115 on the north side of the interstate across from Loves. The restaurant is located inside the Speedway fuel stop. If you leave there hungry, it's your own fault. Yes, it's that good. They have a huge selection of all types of specials very reasonably priced and down home service with a smile.

GREAT LAKES FAMILY RESTAURANT in Fowlerville, Michigan on I-96 at exit 129, NE side of interstate. The building is a former Big Boy restaurant. Great prices, food and service.

It's possible I may have been there. There are a number of little spots. It's rare that we stayed over anywhere above say Foxboro with the exception of Maine which has two good little stops that far north.
I had a bad habit of using state routes in NH which were barely big enough for the semi with all the hills blocking the satellite for a good quiet night's sleep near what I would call a general store of some type. Getting maple syrup and bringing it back home is a treat in season.Need4Speed and Woodchuck88 Thank this. -
Had occassion to stop at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Needles Ca and am currently at the Silver Moon Cafe in Santa Rosa NM. They are in the exact positions that if you eat lunch at the Wagon Wheel then the next day you can eat lunch at the Silver Moon or vice versa going along 40. There is a Loves, TA, and Flying J halfway between them.
I wasn't impressed with the food at the Wagon Wheel and my mouth is mildly burning from my chilli rellenos, beans, and pasole today. The food here at the Silver Moon tasted great but just a little spicier than I like. Maybe a burger next time. -
Another good place to eat/drink in Needles is the Giggling Cactus on the NW edge of town. Lots of adjacent truck parking. And they also have some lovely waitresses, too.

Do you like tamales and fresh produce?
I'll just tack this on this thread
Sidhu Truck Stop/Pedrick Produce
Davis, CA I-80 exit 67
There also is a Pedrick Produce. The parking lot lacks a little to be desired but the tamales and other fresh foods are great. Salami's, dried fruits, nuts, all sorts of condiments and olive oils, beer, wine, etc.
They're not like tamales you might find in San Antonio but they're good, fresh, and have an added potatoes and carrots component in them. They have traditional pork tamales as well as beef, and one other variety IIRC
Pedrick's is one of the last "old school" markets. They still put pricing stickers on everything. Don't see that much anymore.Last edited: Mar 23, 2018

They are actually going to move the whole operation west a couple miles to where the water park used to be. Was supposed to already be open,but....................
