LOL! Ain't that the truth! A buddy called me the other day, we are leased to the same company. He heard my air compressor failed and I was down doing the repairs myself at the house... He asks me, "I bet you just got a really good paycheck?" I laughed, because I knew where this was going...
And yes I did.
The Trucking God knows...Brickwall, wore out and jamespmack Thank this. -
varries a lot. but i am home most weekends at least Sundays a couple weekends per year i might stay out i tend to take a pretty good chunk of time off in the winter every year. a couple months at least this year was only a few weeks. ill take a few other shorter breaks during the year. might take 4-7 days off here or there if there isn't good paying loads available or occasionally a couple days off for a breakdown/repair.

I stay out Monday thru Friday, sometimes only until Thursday depending on how I feel. If freight is hot, I'll work through the weekend and through the following week. A few guys I know go home nightly where I am leased on, but it is just easier to stay in the truck. I am never more than an hour, maybe two from the house, single, kids are gone.

sometimes its kinda the same story for me. i was doing one run for a few months that i really could have been home every night if i wanted to. by taking a different route on my return trip i could have gone home every night the alternative route would have added about 30 miles on the trip. it paid enough to take the out of route miles. but by the time you add in the time for the 30 out of route miles then park the truck at the shop drive the pickup 10-15 mins home 10-15 mins back out to the truck in the morning then start the truck and let it warm up pre trip and take off. would have turned my 11.5 hour days into closer to 13-14. sleep in the truck the truck can be warming up while getting dressed and ready in the morning. so by the time i am ready walk around and take off. no out of route miles i could get some good rest a little relaxing time. where as if i went home it would basically be walk in the house shower eat go straight to bed turn get up and leave. i would have only really had an hour at best of any kind of quality at home time.
there was a couple times out of that few months i was doing that turn i went home during the week but for the most part just stayed out and came home on the weekends.Tug Toy and Justrucking2 Thank this. -
It is just easier to stay in the truck... You go home and this and that happens, never fails. Safer to just stay in the truck and deal with the drama on the weekend.

It would be living life but it would be living life for the moment.
Better to work like hell as many of those 29 days per month you can and then be able to take home time the rest of you life.Brickwall Thanks this.
